Couple weeks ago I did some trading for a couple new leverguns. A Rossi R95 was in stock but the R92 had to be ordered. When I was there I looked a couple Standard 1911's. One in full blue, the other completely color cased. I realized they had a really nice combination of traditional and modern features. I think the full color case model is a bit much and really the wrong platform for that sort of finish but was totally enamored of the blued one, so when I went by yesterday to pick up the Rossi I traded a Colt Gov't model from several years ago for the Standard. They are really nice guns for the money and come with decent checkered walnut grips but I had this set of ivories just waiting for such an opportunity. I had originally gotten them for my Springfield Range Officer but did not want to modify them for the extended safety. Since they're cut for a magwell and I had to clearance them for the Standard's extended safety anyway, I'm going to get some stags for the Standard and put the ivory on my Springfield. It was sunny today so the pics don't do it justice. Now to work on a proper holster for it.....

Nice clean pistol.
Congrats on the acquisition.
Looking forward to seeing the holster you make for it.

It's kinda funny, I found myself wanting a plain GI style 1911 and almost snagged one of them Turkish Girsans. Every time I picked one up, they're real nice for the money but I just really wished it had a beavertail on it. That's my only real sticking point. Then when I looked at this one, wasn't really planning to get one but the more I looked, the more I realized it really had everything I wanted but all black sights. Beautifully polished and blued with fire blued accents, solid trigger like the pre-war guns but it also had a beavertail grip safety. Would've liked a traditional hammer and retro sights but beggars can't be choosers. It's a hell of a pistol for $1100, got what I paid out of the Colt, which I never really warmed up to. Kept the walnut, I think Zane made them.

That blued model is really nice looking, I think I like it better than the one I have. A few months ago I was wandering about one of the local gun shops and the clerk tried to direct me to some plastic guns he thought might interest me. I informed him that firearms made of metal were more to my liking and he said, "I think I have something you might like" and he walked me over to a case with this 1911 in it. "And it is on sale, it's been here a while" he remarked. Probably because it blinds everyone that looks at it, I thought to myself. Needless to say it went home with me. Even though nickel plated guns have never been of much interest to me, it really looks nice with the nitre blued parts. It has a nice trigger pull and is accurate, has fed everything I have run through it. I like the checkering and the modification under the trigger guard, the only fly in the ointment is the oversized manual safety, it tends to dig into my side something fierce when I carry it. At some point I plan to replace it but otherwise I'm pretty happy with it.
