I looked at one video and went down a rabbit hole. This first video is interesting. I held a 8 bore shell once. It was a monster. These are 4 bores. The history and info in the second video is interesting. The guy in the first video is Safarikidd if you know who that is. I don't/didn't know him but saw his posts on forums. I like the statement about being happy he has a gun boy. youtu.be/UjlLliqMF4s?si=lSkv4NSEn95xIWhVyoutu.be/MDYtxxRU_cY?si=abeS7t1JmQ9MKtwi

Tom was a fellow N Idaho boy, down in Coeur D’Alene until the early 2000’s after the hurricane, he went to Cajun country working on rebuilding houses etc above the high water line. An entertaining guy, taken way too soon. That 4 bore is a monster killer!

When I was in college in Gunnison there was a gunsmith in town building custom Farquarson (sp?) action falling block rifles. He would make a scaled down version in 22 Hornet and had made several 4 bores and I remember having an order for a 2 bore for some Saudi Prince.
He had one 2 bore case sitting there and a couple of lead bullets cast for it that were something like 2850gr in weight! Wish I had seen the finished rifle assuming Clayton ever finished it. Guess he folded shop owing a lot of people money and guns…

In Guns Magazine in the 60s? There was an article on a scope mount maker. And he had a 2 bore…..for testing.

Another went to Arnold Palmer. He hunted with Cal Pappas. Otto Candies was his mentor. I think Tom got the 475 Maximum John built for Otto. Good stories on that one.

A friend had a 28 in barrel flintlock 4 bore muzzleloader he built. It weighed 14 #. I have fired it with 150 grains of 3 fff powder and a 4 oz ball. In the 14# smoothbore it moved you around a bit. It had a huge push and as seen in the video it would just keep on pushing. Once you get a 14 # rifle moving it wants to keep on moving. A second shot with a double 4 bore rifle would be a slow affair, relatively speaking.
