I've been looking for some time now for a blue Ruger Blackhawk 41 Magnum in 5 1/2" or 6 1/2". Generally all I can find is the over priced stuff that no one really wants to sell. GunsAmerica has probably the worst interface out there, Guns International has mostly overpriced stuff, I could go on and on...
I know there are lots of pawn shops and large gun shops with lots of used guns in stock and websites with their listings, but how do you find them?

I've been looking for a 4 5/8 41 mag, but I refuse to pay what everyone online wants them for. Realistically, it's browsing the local ads and swinging by the local shops in hopes that one shows up.

I've seen some 4 5/8" sell cheap on GunBroker, one pretty worn one for a bit over $400 a week or two ago.

Cholla, I believe the only Ruger BH 41 Mag that has been made with a 5 1/2” barrel is a Stainless Bisley model. Blued standard Blackhawks come in 4 5/8 or 6 1/2. As for finding them, I see a few at gunshows. Most gun shops I go into are loaded with black plastic. That’s why I rarely frequent them.

I look for guns in all kinds of places. Gun shows,, while most often over priced,, you can also occasionally haggle one down. Same with pawn shops.
I also watch local live auctions that post stuff online. A place called "AuctionZip" lists auctions all over the country. Type in you zip code,, and a radius you want to look at,, (I use 50 miles,) and every auction of every kind pops up. You can scan them for product, then decide if you want to go check one out if it has something of interest.
While I've known folks to get good deals on GB, GA etc web auction sites,, I've never bought one from them.
I also talk guns to all my friends. Especially if I'm searching for something. You just never know when something will turn up.
And when it comes to the OM Ruger SA .41 Blackhawks,, only 4-5/8" and 6-1/2" guns were made in blue. As for the New Models,, mostly the same thing,, unless there's a distributor special or a FT NM in 5-1/2" I'm unaware of.

I use hibid.com/, www.auctionzip.com/, www.proxibid.com/ and the cabelas gun library. I look for estate auctions with low or no buyers premium that are within 100 miles. I picked up this 41 Magnum Bisley at auction for the hammer price and sales tax. It was an in person only auction.

I have a Proxibid account but I vehemently refuse to pay 23%-25% online premium, packing charges, etc. I will say though that lately I've seen a couple of auction house with more reasonable fees in the 15% range.

I agree, except that doing math on the fly you can still sometimes end up with a fair deal on there. In the end I only care what the check has to be written for, how we got there isn't really relevant, even though it is part of the deception they work on, how a cheap $400 turns into a $550 check when it is all said and done. But if the $550 check is for a $800 gun? Well I can get over the dance to get there, it doesn't often work but sometimes...

Shops and shows are hit or miss for things I'm looking for but aside from them, gunbroker is about the best solution I have for something I'm looking for.
GB's UI is frustrating though. Trying to narrow a search by caliber, barrel length or material provides a number of possible selections. On the positive side, using their negative filter like blackhawk -45 -45acp -357 -.357 etc. like the google or Craig's list search engines does help quite a bit.

But I was looking at a few Blackhawks there last week and figured to add at least $110 to the hammer price. Then sometimes you don't know whether they're going to ship cheap as in USPS Flat Rate or FedEx or UPS who require expensive shipping.

I don't know who the mouth-breather is that created and maintained the GB site is, but I bet he/she writes with crayons. Want to search for a .44 Magnum? Well one has to choose between .44 Mag, .44 Rem Mag. and .44 Rem Magnum. Or barrel length, there's 4 or 4 inch, 5 or 5 inch or 6 or 6 inch. WHY???

I gave up looking for deals years ago…. I just get what I want. Save a little longer if needed.

I use gunbroker. I use saved searches for anything I am looking for and then just take my time until I find something. Works for me.

Is that a user input that the page designer passes on to the UI or something hard codded in the source? Whatever it is a decent programmer should be able to fix it.
