Ok paleroadster asked me to try out one of his new front sight assemblies recently. he made it for the Single-Six, so swapping it out would be easy.
Well, here's the run down of everything.
I received a package with a base,, (3) different swappable inserts, (2) pieces of fiber optic (Green & orange,) and a pair of replacement screws. Have some patience as I get the pictures up, and complete the post.
I started with the green fiber optic.
Next,, I tried the one I'd call a "standard ramp" type.
I followed that with the flat faced one. Which I figured would reduce glare.
Next,, I decided to be a bit unconventional,, and reversed the flat faced one,, where I had a rounded ramp towards my rear sight.
I had decided to use my .32 H&R mag Ruger Single-Six as the test gun.

Now,, the conditions were as follows.
Sunny & calm. Seated under a shooting shed, (shaded,) target at 25 yds. I used Federal factory ammo, 85 grn JHP. I was some ammo I had traded into a while back, and decided to use it up. I fired 5 shot groups,, to see how the sights appeared to me. All the groups were pretty much the same size,, about 2"-2-1/2".
Now,, my impressions.
The base is very nice looking & obviously quality thought went into it. The fact you can easily swap out blades is a great feature. And by reversing one,, proved the versatility of this design. The sight picture was pretty good overall. I did feel the rear blade was too wide for this sight,, but it was the same with the factory front sight. I had a bit too much gap in the rear. No fault on the design of these front inserts. And I can swap out the rear blade to a more narrow one.
Shooting from a shaded bench,, didn't allow for a lot of distinction in the sight picture,, except for the reversed one, with the top more rounded. It did pick up more light. Kinda surprising.
I will be trying them again in direct sunlight when I get the time to re-test everything. Today,, I had work calling me away.
But overall impression,, Well made & a good design.
