I thought about the Alec Baldwin incident. Of course, we know about guns.
I'm glad a wanna-be gunslinger wasn't the first to pick this one up.
I'm hoping the gun doesn't have a stigma attached to it now. It'll be me, not the gun, that thinks about it every time I pick it up.

Poppa drilled into my head: "The most dangerous gun is one that is unloaded"...for the same reason you mentioned.
Oh, and nice OMBH...great get!

Went to a show once and the guy had a nice 1911 colt. Asked to see it and same thing. It was fully loaded. Dropped the mag, cleared the pistol and handed it back and just walked away. Didn’t even try to deal with him.

Kudos on a great find at a very good price.
I too went to a gun show today. As we were entering,, all have to pass a table where there were (2) guys checking guns for ammo. Then they would add a wire tie to the gun. On the table between the 2 guys was a clear plastic jug. A hand written label was on the jug. It said; "This ammo was removed from "unloaded" or "empty" firearms."
Quite a few rounds in that jug.

I'll get past this and hopefully find I have a great gun.
There was never any real danger as I handle all guns as if they're loaded.
I thought more about if someone else had held the gun and my 8 year old grandson (who was with me) would have been the victim.
I'll get Trent to build me some nice grips. I have a beautiful Macassar Ebony Blank. Probably refinish the gripframe and go from there.
If Kelye doesn't have a base pin, Ronnie will before too long.

Trying to focus more on the gun, I just installed a NM Belt Mountain #5.
Works just fine and may have a new home if OM Base Pins aren't available.
Gun locks up tighter and barrel gap screams "keep me clean."
I'll give it a try on the bench and likely flex hone the cylinder throats a bit.

Took the hammer out and polished both sides this morning. Also the trigger plunger and a few other parts.
Used a cobbled up depth gauge to determine the plunger on the NM Base Pin wasn't making it to the hammer.
Had some Bearpaw Grips made of Buckeye on it. Honing the cylinder throats is next, then off to the bench...

What hone do you use? Any concern about "hour glass" shape using a flex hone?

What hone do you use? Any concern about "hour glass" shape using a flex hone? No concerns at all. Personally, I think that's just more of the hysterical among us anyways. I use a fine grit hone and doubt I've ever removed more than .0003" on the radius.

Managing a range that runs 20,000 shooters a year we see all sorts of "unloaded" gun issues. How about a positive note! Looks like a future 300 GNR to me!

I can't classify this as a bucket list gun. But, I have always thought it would be great to own one.
Finding one in this condition and price was like God smiled on me.
He must have continued to smile. A friend who inherited a large amount of new gun powder stopped by yesterday. Brought me 8# of both Unique and Herco, plus 4# of 2400.
All three should be suitable for this gun...

Usually Ebay. I've had very good luck with it.
A top gunsmith told me he used 240 grit. mostly, but occasionally 320 grit. I've used 320, 400 and occasionally down to 800 grits for a really snazzy finish.
That 800 grit will polish like a mirror with a good light oil...
