Went to a local Gun Show this morning.
Walking around, I spotted a nearly mint 3 Screw 30 Carbine.
Guy wanted $600 Cash OTD. Needless to say, I own it.
Much more to this story. Just haven't decided if it should be posted or not.
Needs cleaning in the worst of ways. More details and pictures coming...

Disassembled and completely cleaned the gun. Upon reassembly, I'd give the gun about 97%. Not collector's grade, but a great shooter.
So, I'll post the rest of the story as a warning to others...
I spotted the gun and asked to see it. Also, asked the guy to cut the tie wraps loose so I could inspect the whole gun.
Gun looked great and I pulled the hammer back to half cock, looked at the firing pin to confirm it was not converted. Then I spun the cylinder and it seemed smooth, but could tell the gun needed cleaning.
Then all Hell broke loose. At a table full of onlookers, I opened the loading gate. The gun was fully loaded with PMC Ammo.
I turned it so others couldn't see and showed the seller. The guy went down to his knees. Hyperventilating and I thought he was having a heart attack.
He took the gun and literally got under the table to unload it. I honestly felt bad for the guy, but was also annoyed.
I'm not sure if that influenced the deal. All this occurred before he quoted me a price.
This was the first and hopefully the last time I will ever see this.
The Gun Show was excellent and full of people. To think what could have happened is something that would ruin lives.

Excellent find Huey, and thank God, you were the first one to handle it, we could all be reading about this one in the newspaper, instead of the forum

Thanks Tim...
You can see the frame has turned a little plum colored. Doesn't bother me one bit.
Probably let the nerves settle down before I shoot this one.

BTW, throats are a stupid tight .309". They are likely to meet Mr. Flex-Hone until they are a solid .309". I'll shoot it before I decide.
Lockup is really good, but most OMs are. Barrel gap will accept a .002" feeler gauge. A .0015" goes thru easily, but the .002" is tight and requires some finesse.
The only modification I can find, and that's only speculation, is the base pin spring is very strong. It feels like a Wolf Extra Power Spring.
Other than that, it's as it left Ruger...

I know i have some moments in life involving guns that i sometimes think about and my stomach still turns many, many years later. Im sure that gentleman will NEVER let that happen again! I cant remember going to a gun show in the last 30 years that you didnt have to hand over your guns to someone at the door for a check. I guess vendors are held to a different standard. Very honorable thing you did letting him keep some dignity in thw situation and not running him over the coals in front of all to see.

Very nice find Huey & a great save! Over 40 years ago I had a table at the Pocatello Gun Show & a guy handed me a rifle he wanted to trade. I opened the bolt & a loaded round fell on the table, the safety was already off. My first thought was to punch him I was so mad, he started to make excuses but I just ask him to leave then I set down, I was shaking really bad. I could smell liquor on him as well. Glad everything went ok & you went home with a great 30 carbine & we all are thankful you handled it well.

You probably should have gotten that rifle from him. Some people are not to be trusted with a plastic spoon, let alone a gun.

Well, it did come with a box of ammo. But, I didn't get that six. Probably should have just for the memory...

Anybody hands me a gun, any kind of gun, unless they demonstrate to me that it’s unloaded, I check. I keep some guns loaded in my house, those that visitors never see, and I check them also. Unloaded guns have long been known to kill or injure folks. Good thing you checked. I’m going to a gun show in a couple weeks and this will be forefront in my mind.
