I picked up a nice 10-1/2” Maxi yesterday. Looks to have been fired very little. I’ve got some brass and Bradshaw-Martin bullets stashed away somewhere. I know what I’ll be doing this weekend 😊

With the 194 gr Bradshaw-Martin, try 18.5 grs of IMR 4227. After testing nearly a dozen powders at varying charges, the 4227 load shot consistently better at 100 yards. David found the same. From your 10.5" barrel, it should go just under 1,500 fps. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

My 7-1/2" likes 19.5grs of 4227 better. The 10" likes 19grs. I pc with powder from x101 then lube with LBT soft blue. It groups better that way with the water-droppped pre and post pc alloy I got from axman, 14-15bhn. 2" groups at 100yds from both Rugers, 7/8" from the SSK barrel contender.

Very nice gun you picked up & good advice, it will save you a few primers working up a load if you're using the Bradshaw/Martin bullet. Send some target photo's!

That bullet, That powder and that charge is spot on in the 10.5. Unless you just gotta hankerin for some experimentation. , Just go straight to it. Same charge with the 180 XTP is a done proposition as well. Sound advise from the B & M Team. and Lee is spot on with the speed. Im showing bowt 1490 avg. And flattter than all get out. Myself, Tank Hoover, Steve Ostrum, Shane Jahn, David Fink and Matthew peake beat the Hell out of a Banana shaped rock in New mexico with that very load last June. It is almost 600 yards away and they all hit it consistantly. I havent been up the mountain yet but they tell me its about 5 feet across. You are going to fall in Love with that Revolver. R

Ronnie and Lee.... you have math. I have a bottle cap abacus. I measure revolver groups to 1/10” (0.1”). There is no reason to measure a reliever group in hundredths----let alone 1/1000----inch. Hell, there’s no reason to measure the best IHMSA Unlimited pistol, nor the best hunting single shot, tighter than 0.1-inch.
Let’s look at a group of five or six revolver rounds which hit the 5-foot banana rock @ 600 yards. a 60” group @ 600 yards reduces straight to 10” @ 100 yards. Which reduces straight to 2.5” @ 25 yards. This exercise presumes there is no cone of dispersion (accuracy degradation) as distance increases.
The Blackhawk .357 Maximum with 10-1/2” barrel has a target sight .100” wide. Depending on the shooter’s anatomy, from the Isoceles standing position, the front sight is 8” wide @ 100 yards. Same sight picture widens the 1/10” sight to 48”, or 4 feet, @ 600 yards. An estimate, of course, as any variation in EYE RELIEF changes width of front sight on target. Long eye relief narrows front sight (subvention). Short eye relief widens front sight.
This seance in Raton, New Mexico was attended and witnessed by reputable shooters. A target six football fields yonder the muzzle introduces atmospheric fuzz a closer target cannot imagine. It proves FOLLOW THROUGH an absolute necessity. the collective consistency if these shooters throws down a gauntlet answerable in witnessed performance only. To put it Country Simple, this squad of hombres can shoot. If the revolver can’t do it, the bullet can’t do it. If the bullet can’t do it, the shooter can’t do it. David Bradshaw

My Ruger maximums are hands down the best built Rugers I have ever seen. The fit and finishes are spot on. Front sights are aligned properly. All of the cylinder throats were consistent. Not a hint of thread choke in any of the 4 I own. The factory triggers are crisp and only required a lighter return spring to be very nice. Timing and lock up is great.
I really wish all Rugers were built like this.
