Keith's first book, "Sixgun Cartridges and Loads" circa 1936 is a great read. That little blue book started me on the way to a lifetime of handgun use. Wolfe Publishing did a reprint so you might find them at a gun show. Don't pass it by if it's affordable. All of Elmer's books are "must reads". I have Skeeter's books, also.
MY favorite read today is Taffin's "Gun Digest Book of the .44" - that is a DANDY! I've dern near worn that one out. All of Taffin's are MORE than worthwhile.
Ed McGivern's book is a textbook of serious gun handling. It put me on the path to aerial shooting and made my entry into IPSC (many years afterwards) running with the "Big Dogs" possible.

Don't forget Jeff Cooper's books. The paperback Cooper On Handguns (not sure of title) is a classic. Jayhawker Bob

John Dougan's newest.... It tells the story of William B. Ruger and his gunmaking up through the early 1970's. There are a lot more books on Rugers that cover the Rimfire Autos and the Single Action Revolvers. Joe Clayton wrote a good book on the Number 1 Rifles but it's rather scarce. Carl

Perhaps a little unrefined for the typical gun book palate here... But..... If you ever buy, sell, or trade Rugers RENE is a MUST HAVE...

This is a good set of references. The only one I didn't see is The Pistol Shooter's Book, Harrisburg, Penn., Stackpole, 1953 (2nd ed. 1961) by Charles Askins the elder. This is the book that really got me on the road to being a handgun shot. When I was in university in the 60's, I worked in the library. We got a new librarian whose 'mantra of the month' was to discard materials that had not been shecked out for more than six months. Of course, that was nearly the entire technology section since those are mostly used in the stacks for reference and not checked out. Also, almost all the US Geodetic Survey maps. I convinced the idiot to let me take them home instead of destroy them. I guess they don't learn about the great library of Alexandria, Egypt in Library Science. The current procedures seem to have been developed by the Taliban. Anyway, read, read, read. It keeps you from having to make all the same mistakes and useless gestures of the past.

All great books, many of which I own and most of the others I've read. Other favorites, although not necessarily revolver-specific: "Metallic Cartridge Reloading" by Mic McPherson "Modern Reloading" by Richard Lee These two are my favorite reloading manuals, and are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Both are outstanding. "From Ingot to Target: A Cast Bullet Guide for Handgunners" by Glen Fryxell and Rob Applegate www.lasc.us/Fryxell_Book_Contents.htm"Percussion Pistols And Revolvers" by Mike Cumpston and Johnny Bates "Marlin Firearms: A History of the Guns and the Company That Made Them" by Col. William Brophy "The Muzzle-Loading Cap Lock Rifle" - by Ned Roberts
