I really like the Colt King Cobra, current edition, and I really like the 41 magnum caliber. Looks like the two cartridges, 357 magnum and 41 magnum are the same length or close enough. Would this Colt revolver be a good candidate to have gunsmithed into a 41 magnum?
Thanks for any helpful comments and insight.

I don't think there's anywhere close to enough steel in that gun. Personally, I think it'd be a better 38 Special than 357 Magnum...

...Python is perfect.
Personally I've been thinking about doing a 3" in .41 Special instead of Magnum.

Even in a .41 special you’d need to be careful about pressures.
Nothing over 850fps with a 215gr cast bullet in my L-frame S&W .41 Specials and not many of those.

You’d need a 5 shot cylinder.
So not a simple rechamber, but a rebore and new cylinder.

That would be in a Python 3" not a Cobra...I also believe that although a Cobra "could" be done, it would be like having a 5 shot .41 Single-Six... I've got several .41 Taurus Trackers and they make the perfect L-frame size .41 Special. Magnums will beat the guns to an early death.

Consensus seems to be not doable with the Colt cylinder... maaaaaybe for a 41 Special which would be very cool, I think.
So... would the Smith 66 Combat Magnum be a better candidate or does it's sleeved/2 piece barrel make that pretty iffy?

Would love to see S&W make the model 69 in a .41Mag. Seems like an easy option for them to sell some more guns.

Me too but 41 Mag is such a niche caliber they probably cannot justify the production expense. I do believe the Charter Arms was offered in a 41 Mag some time ago. Probably sell for big cash on GB.

Will somebody post some details when they get this conversion done?

The 69 would make a great .41 but getting S&W to make anything .41 or .32 is like pulling teeth... Finally Lipsey's convinced them there is a market for .32 H&R Mag. carry guns and are making some... Smith has been offering only a 6" 57 Classic for probably 15 years...maybe drop the 6" for a while and offer a 4"... Have a funny feeling that the CA .41 either beat its owners or self to death.... www.americanrifleman.org/content/review-charter-arms-41-mag-pug/

Yup, that's why I suggest a 41 spl in CA. It would be the perfect gun to legitimatize the 41 spl.

MA where revolvers are still made, and 5ish other states have "safety testing" rules. Every single sku# has to be tested. Submit 3 examples at MFG's cost PLUS the MFG has to pay for the destructive testing. 2 barrel lengths? Submit 6 examples, 3 colors of grips? Submit 9, three grip colors available on both barrel lengths, Submit 18 samples.
