I hauled some stuff out of my retired gun smith buddies shop for him, & an old project came home with me... his 476 WTH... ( there were some threads here, when we built them... basically a 45 Colt revolver with a 475 barrel on it, & the cylinder bored straight through... bullets are heal seated into full length 45 Colt cases... in messing with this, we tried powder coating the bullets, to avoid external lubing of the bullets, but that made the heal thicker, & we should order a different custom mold, if we were going to powder coat the full bullet... this leads to my question, if there is something that could be on the bullet, that would make the powder stick to the bullet, by just swirling the nose in the powder, if each bullet was held by the heal... this would powder coat the bearing surface, without adding any thickness to the heal area... anything I can think of, would not work with the heating process... Thoughts??? this is the original thread... with most relevant pictures & info from here to the end of the thread... singleactions.proboards.com/thread/20128/achilles-type-project-pictures-added?page=5

I live in the PNW, and most times have an issue with dry powder coat sticking with the friction shake method. I do the wet method. 1/4 spoon of powder, 1/2 cap ( the tiny gallon jug cap) of acetone in a bucket with 100-300 bullets, depending on size. It turns the powder to paint, for a minute, and coats all the bullets well. Try brushing on a few and bake them, it might work, although time consuming.

^That sounds a lot slower than lube. lol I used Rooster Jacket on my 310 Cadet bullets. I know production was in limbo, even out of production I thought, but Buffalo arms is showing it in stock. Old picture or old stock since it say Rooster Labs. www.buffaloarms.com/rooster-jacket-waterproof-bull-rlrj.html

I can’t imagine painting on powder coat 1 at a time, to do 200 bullets, when you can swirl them in a bucket for 10 seconds and dump them all out on the toaster oven tray. But you can try a few and see if it works.

MWM's issue isn't coating , but where not. The heel needs to stay free of the PC. Wonder if the Rooster Jacket, would be a thinner coating, and maybe still work ?

the question really comes from my retired buddy... IMO, it would cost more money, but make the cartridge much more practical to just have another bullet mold cut for powder coated bullets, making the heal that thickness smaller... and probably the whole bullet diameter, as these require pushing the bullets through another sizer, after being powder coated

I was thinking more along the lines of dipping the loaded rounds.
