Last week my phone buzzed and it was the older guy who runs the local two day a week LGS. He knows that Rugers, especially old models, ring my bell and he had a family member bring him an old model dual cylinder Super Single Six. It was a little finish worn but basically a nice clean 5 1/2” with a nice tight lock up and a BC gap that takes a .002 feeler gauge but not a .003 blade.
Since I gave my dad’s Colt Frontier Scout to my oldest grandson,I was going to give the little Clements custom 22 to my other grandson, Rex. Once I saw this little single six I decided to switch gears and guns. The reason for the switch actually goes back to my friend John Gallagher. Just before John died he surprised me and finished two custom projects I had sent down years before. One of those guns was a short barrel old model Blackhawk in 45 Colt. That gun had a Clements bisley hammer, brass grip frame with nice walnut grips, Bowen rear sight, #5 base pin and a Stroh front sight. I have that gun to Rex’s dad who is my oldest son, Remington.
With all the new things Ronnie is offering I decided I could build a 22 version of the 45 and give it to Rex. With a brass grip frame and bisley spurred hammer from Ronnie and a shortened #5 base pin the only thing I will be missing is the Stroh front sight and I have good reason to believe I will have one of those before long as well. I think this little Rex project will be a perfect mate for for his dads 45.

When I got out of bootcamp in the military first place I went to when I got home was my local gunshop. I bought a brand new Ruger Super Single Six with the extra 22 mag cylinder. Hold on to your seats.....$69!!!! That revolver shot exceptionally accurate. This was in 1965. Many years down the road I sold it. Yeah yeah yeah, don't worry, I've been kicking myself in the ass ever since. Young and dumb.
