I am flush with SR/SP primers and that seems to be all that’s available anymore. 101’s post on the small primer acp brass got me thinking about the possibility of the baby 45 being a viable hunting gun in the right platform. What can it do in a STRONG gun as in large frame ruger minimum. If it would do 1100 with a 255, that would get a lot of hunting done around here and put it right with my 44spl loads. I have the 454’s and could down load them or cut brass down for the colt in a worst case scenario, but another option never hurts. With a stiff load of Blue Dot, I've run a 255 gr. SWC 950 fps out of my Colt Series 70. Accuracy was downright amazing. What else would a fella need?

Not picking on you or others that use Blue Dot, but Alliant quit the data for some of the cartridges they had loads for, mainly I think, revolver loads. Also on other forums about it being super sensitive to temperature mainly cold. I have used it some and had zero problems. In the 45 acp like you.

So, I have a SS Ruger BH Bisley in 45 Colt that has a 3.5" barrel with both 45 Colt and 45 acp cylinders. If I understand correctly, I could shoot 45 Super without altering the 45 acp cylinder or have the cylinder cut for AR cases and still shoot 45 acp, in either case?

If you have it correctly altered to shoot 45 Auto Rim, it will still shoot 45 ACP and Super just fine...

Killed a 250 lbs. hog with 45 acp Blackhawk, used Buffalo bore 45 Super ammo. That's impressive. I watched the video where Razor Dobbs killed two Cape Buffalo's with a Dan Wession 1911 in 10mm using very hard cast bullets, along with a professional hunter backup. What was impressive to me is the one broadside shot through the heart completely penetrated the buffalo exiting it's body. Yes I know it's not a 45acp, but still it's a 1911. Backup dangerous bear gun? ?

Backup dangerous bear gun? ? Interesting. Several years ago I bought on an old '73 Winchester (1886 production) in 38 WCF and began casting 192 gr. FN bullets for it. I found that over a compressed charge of Swiss 3Fg I could achieve velocities slightly in excess of 1400 fps, well over what a 10mm could do with the same bullet. Same velocities were achieved with smokeless powders. But people would think you were nuts if you showed up to hunt Cape Buffalo with one of these!
