We all know how good Ruger service is.
But today takes the cake.
I reassembled a NM Blackhawk. (something I positively suck at) and after spending the hole day doing it I go to put the spring strut and springs in and can't find the pin that goes through the trigger return spring.
Called Ruger, Jacob answers the phone and after a short conversation, 2 are on the way free of charge, no shipping or anything.
Now about reassembly, get this. I have the parts in the frame, Ronnies cool little gadget holding the spring down, and I can't get the trigger pivot pin through the second frame hole. The one just past the spring. Try tapping put oil on it it won't go through.
Can't imagine the pin being bent but i can think of no other explanation. So, I pull it apart again and the pin fits. A little snug but no problem. I reassemble, and I can't get the pin through the same hole.
The guy that rents a room in my basement and is a helpful type, is home so I ask him to push down on the spring with a screwdriver, and still can't get it through. Tapping it pushing it twisting it, nothing works. I step away from the bench for a second. He pushes down on the spring with his finger and pushes the pin through with his thumb. no struggle at all.
Something is wrong with me. This kind thing has happened to me all my life. Cost me a job or two when I was young.
I spent hours trying to get that pin through. Using Ronnies tool using a screwdriver to hold the spring down, can't get it in to that second hole in the frame. My friend does it in 5 seconds. With no tools.
There is no explanation. I have done it before on other Ruger SAs. But each time something else holds me up.
I have never put one together in under 4 hours. I bet some of you guys can do it in 10 minutes. ...tj
