Looks great to me! I always found the redhawk/super redhawk hammer to be very functional but not necessarily attractive in profile

Man I’d even look at buying another RedHawk if- 1. It had a bisley hammer like that mock up and 2. It had a set of Rob Rowan modified grips like on Greg’s RedHawk . Agreed the hammer looks great! And I hope within the year my number will be up with Rob and I can get the same grips. I have been watching for a set from herretts that I could modify similarly in the meantime. Sounds like that blackstrap makes a big difference in heavy recoiling cartridges in the redhawk!

That hammer does give the Redhawk a distinctive look, I like it.

Okay. Blued 357 Redhawk. CCH frame, Bisley hammer, wide trigger High polish charcoal blue cylinder, 5" ovate barrel A set of the "Bisley" style grips (as shown in another thread) of Koa wood Rechamber to 360DW. Done You forgot the $6K....at least.... Not if I do the work. Talk Ronnie into making the hammers. Tyler for the cch on a prepped frame. Used Redhawk. Barrel blank from Douglas. Less than $2000.

Looks much better! They need c those for Redhawk and BFR.
Does the different shape / weight have any appreciable effect on lock time, ignition, etc.?

That's a better option than I had in mind. I had put parts together for a Redhawk build that was headed to JRH last month and picked up what I thought was a Stainless Steel S&W N Frame Target Hammer to tig to the Redhawk hammer spur.
Turns out in speaking with Jack that the Smith SS hammers are carbon steel and chrome plated. 😔 Jack was talking about tigging buildup and shaping it instead. I do have a spare bisley hammer laying around. This might be a possibility if there isn't too much porosity. It can turn into a gopher mega den once you start up.

Does Douglas still make good barrels? I heard they did through the early 1980's in the rifle world, but heard they went downhill after that. Can anyone elaborate on this if they have adequate knowledge of it? I am not trying to disrespect the author of this thread who acquired an ovate barrel blank through Douglas, as I also like the looks of an ovate barrel. Is Douglas the only one making such barrel blanks? And what is their current reputation? Thanks all.

I use Douglas blanks for my guns. They are excellent, but I haven't seen an ovate one offered.

That looks good. About all I can say for the hammers on Ruger double actions is "They're functional". They always looked to me, like someone just cut them out of a piece of steel, with a side grinder. I like my GP's, but I have to overlook the hammer.

Agreed, I don't think much if any thought goes into them. My SRH hammer is so rough around the edges if I ever used it much with my thumb my fingerprint would be gone :-) I rarely if ever use a DA revolver single action and then only to get by a high primer, rim issue or other some such so I'm always torn whether or not to bob the hammers on them all.

My 100 hammer was so sharp I ended up putting a 45°bevel on the sides and rear edge for that reason.
