This probably isn't the right place to put this but since my post don't generate many responses it probably won't hurt anything. Out of my wondering about shooters in general has generated this question. What kind of groups can the shooters on here shoot at 100 yards offhand standing with no rest of any kind? Let's say their favorite handgun with their favorite ammo. Not really interested what one can do on their very best day or very worst day but what can they do normally meaning more likely than not. Let's say 6 rounds at 100 yards offhand. Thanks in advance.

I used 3" target dots and could hit them around 5 out of 6 shots. Those days are long gone.

I have always worked under the understanding that 1" of group size for every 10 yards is the standard for a good gun, good load, good shooter.
Some can halve that but they are rare, I can usually do it for 4 or 5 out of the cylinder but will almost always throw one or two fliers out there. I practice on 12" gongs at 100 and going 4-5 out of 6 usually is about as good as I can hold, my eyes are also aging and its not getting any easier.
I will also say that shooting a honest 1" group at 10 yards is not very hard, holding 10" at 100 yards is 3 times as hard to do! Mathematics be damned, but it is so much harder to shoot small groups at distance with iron sights...

In 1985, I was challenged to hit a car battery at a hundred yards with a 4" Security Six and hand-loaded, HP version of the Lyman 358-429.
Five for five - "thwack, thwack, thwack, thwack, thwack." Easy money.
TODAY, I think I still might be able to hit the CAR, at least once in five tries.
It was big ol' car from the seventies too, so take that for what it's worth.

I’m out since trying to shoot an offhand group at 100 isn’t something I work at. My max range for irons is 75-85 with a rest.

SAME HERE, I USUALLY ONLY SHOOT IRON SIGHTS (REVOLVERS) OFF HAND AT 50 METERS, I CANNOT REMEMBER THE LAST TIME I TRIED SHOOTING IRON SIGHTS @ 100 YARDS.

In good conditions, I'm 80% on a 10" steel plate at 100 yards with a 5 - 6 inch barreled gun. Something with more sight radius I'll do better, 8" Dan Wesson 44 being my favorite. I've been having success lately with red dots specifically when shooting distance. For me, the benefit is largest on the guns with the shortest sight radius as I shoot those the worst.

Don't know about 100yds, but that's 50, standing offhand. With the poor fixed sights on the Service Six.

With my 4 inch Rdhawk .44 magnum, I can hit 4 out of 6 shots on a steel 14 inch wheel at 100 yards standing with open sights.

I never shot unsupported 100 yd groups, but could hit milk jugs and 2 liter soda bottles 3-4 times for every 6 standing with a 7 1/2" Redhawk and the old orange box Black Hills 240 load. Sitting with elbows on knees 7-8" without much trouble - this was 30 years ago. I still hold pretty well most days but my vision isn't great. I could probably duplicate it at 50 on a good day now...

I don't recall ever trying for a group off hand at 100 yards so the honest answer is, I don't know. Today, 12 inches would probably be good, maybe very good!! On our farm my oldest son and I used to shoot two, SA revolvers out to 500 yards but that was always using Elmer's back rest. The targets were my 18 X 24 inch steel buffalo targets and the revolvers were a Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt and a Colt New Frontier in 44 Spl. Once you learned how much front sight to hold up hits were a lot more consistent than one would believe.
Just a few days ago I put 4 out of 4 on that same buffalo target at 100 yards....but that was rested. I'll be 71 in February and SO FAR still have 20/20 corrected....thank God.

Hereditary diabetes and LOTS of nerve damage limit my shooting ability. I plink at odd stuff out to 200 yards occasionally but it is not with any real intent. M 4 5/8ths 45 Colt New Model Blackhawk is not much of a 100 yard gun in my hands. Just a guess, but I think "maybe" I could hold about a 14 inch group at 100 yards if I tried really hard and took my time. At 25 yards I am "moment of possum" accurate which is all I really need. Even that depends on the "moment" the possum moves on me. The threats that make me carry daily are much bigger than a possum usually or right at my feet.
