I just spent 5 days down on the Texas Coast chasing rogue cattle through swamp land. Got home yesterday and washing off I noticed my entire skin feels like a sack of doorknobs and "itch like crazy" doesn't even begin to touch it. I have been sensitive to bug bites all my life and am severely allergic to bee stings. Unfortunately, deet also burns my skin like muriatic acid. What do yall do before and after going into intense concentrations of biting bugs to prevent bites and welps? There has GOT to be a trick beyond stuffing my boots and belt line with dryer sheets to keep these infernal spawns of Satan off me or to help me recover from them faster. Surely I cant be the only one that has had to deal with this. Any thoughts, suggestions are welcome.

I'm in the same boat, insects love me and I puff up like a balloon. I got into some chiggers out near Amistad Lake back in the '90's and nearly looked like I had leprosy, not pretty. Benadryl and Aveeno Anti-Itch lotion is the best I've come up with so far.

Benadryl or you might need a steroid.

When I guided fly fishing I was going to head for Alaska and of course the discussion of mosquitoes is frequent. Deet work alright for clients there for a week but prolonged use just didn’t do good things for your skin (melts fly lines quick too).
So what everyone swore by was Skin So Soft lotion. The fragrance is a little odd for a bunch of tough fishing guides but it was extremely effective on the bugs and smelled a whole lot better than a bunch of dudes working in camps without running water.

Benadryl makes me sleep pretty well, but unless I can stay knocked out for three days it makes me too drowsy to operate equipment. I have the "Skin So Soft". It works better than just dryer sheets for sure.

Do like the Cajuns. Eat alot of spicy food. Deters intestinal parasites and makes you less tasty to mosquitoes and those damn biting gnats. Plus I love jambalaya.

Permethrin on your clothes, military actually has it impregnated in field uniforms as well.

The best thing I have found to keep biting insects at bay is a Thermacell. I have worn one in a case on my backpack when still hunting and hiking into my stand and it has worked to keep the skeeters and yellow flies away during our humid September and October bow seasons.

I forgot about those. I probably have one, somewhere. I need to see about ordering some new cartridges.

Cats too, if they touch it while wet, so be careful when applying it.
