Don't know Condor, I think the price scares many off. It's ridicuosly expensive for a lever action.

Yah, I thought that way when Marlin brought out their stainless 1894 in 357 mag. It was $600 dollars then, a real thought provoker. Now I wish I had bought 5 of them because the gun forums want $2,000 for them now. This new one is a real nice piece of work even for the price they’re asking. Since you brought up the Condor, remember just who he was and doing what he did since you stuck me with the title.

To me it's not how they look, it's how they perform and how accurate they are. My 45Colt Marlin 94 Cowboy look similar to the 357 you mentioned, but in accuracy it can't hold a candle to my 94 Winnie Trapper in accuracy. Only thint that Marlin has going for it, is you can easilly mount a scope, that's it. Both Winchester and Marlin have wised up to get the rifling twist where it should have been for those cartridge in RIFLES, Winchester much much sooner then Marlin. I looked up the twist on the new Winnie 92 and the Marlin 94 for the 357 cartridge and one is 18 3/4 twist the other 16. My Marlin 45 with a 255 grain bullet is only good to about 100 yards. At 200 you are luck to hit a man in torso, not sow with the Winnie 94, it's still minute of deer at 200 yards.

minute of mule deer at 200 yards …. Really? I’m sorry for you! We’ve shot witnessed competition showing a stainless 1894 357 Mag would do MOA at 300 yards for a full magazine in the hands of several shooters. My rifle and my loads. No flies on that. And that was from a bunch of older crusty Michiganers.

Where did you see minute of mule deer? You're also comparing apples to oranges with the 357 to the 45 Colt, especiall when the Colt was shot from a 16 inch barrel. Bruce told me about shooting. I'm not going to say.

A bunch of old guys shooting MOA at 300 yards with a 92 in .357. With a whole magazine?. Ok. That's some damn good shooting. Even with a scoped .308...tj

Bob's comparing apples and oranges when comparing shooting a 16 inch barrel Win 94 Trapper in 45 Colt with a long heavy bullet compared to a 20 inch barrel Win 92 Carbine in 357 Mag. I was chewing up a salt block at more then 300 yards with a Model 19 S&W with a 4 four inch barrel consistantly WITH MY LOADS AND MY BULLETS. So what's the big deal Bob? I had a witness and a witness to the witness, but both unfortunetely have passed and I dearly miss them.

People can pick what they want to buy and own. It’s up to them. At least someone else is looking to buy.
As far as slow twist rifles and longer ranges, there are people here that can get accuracy out of them. It depends on just what you put in it and your ability to shoot. Not what you think will work.

That's right, one can find something that shoot out of them to a degree, but you are not going to shoot real long distance with a Marlin 94 in 45 Colt with the longer heavier bullets with very good accuracy. Why you think at the end of Marlin's ownership they were starting to change those ancient twist the had in their carbine rifles and also in their 444 Marlin, huh Bob? Yeah I could probably get more longer distance in the 45 Colt Marlin if I shot my 200 grain SWC's. BTW the way I'm not telling anyone what to buy. All I said was the 92 Winchester is quite a few bucks cheaper then the Ruger Marlins and you even mentioned that. Cheap shot in my book.

The Ruger Marlin's. Sell for well under retail. Still not inexpensive. Cabella's sell the 44 mag and 30/30s for 1050.00. ...tj

It's our memory that hurts us. I remember when the Winchester and Marlin leveractions sold for $140 and during hunting season Kmart (remember them?LOL) had tables like gunshow tables stacked with 30-30 ammo for little over $3 a box! Those days are gone and we have to live with what we have today.

Here's the .357 carbine I'm thinking about getting as soon as I find the best price on it. It's a deluxe take-down Trapper with pistol grip, octagon barrel, and pistol grip.
