Every once in a while I run across a handgun that a PO had his name (so far no women) engraved in the gun and it sits in the shop a V-E-R-Y L-O-N-G time, and ultimately sells as the price drops. This one already has SIX individual bidders so I can only guess that six guys have the same name, the bidders will re-engrave over the PO's name, they need a very cool beater truck gun, or some peeps just really like a good deal? Any guesses what the next owner's reason is for buying it? :-) www.gunbroker.com/item/1022235559

Maybe an engraver can do a cover-up job, like they do for a tattoo?

next gun owner gets a gun with the word WAM on it... ( that's actually my initials backwards ) I started doing that when I was a kid, playing those 1st video arcade games... as a strapping young man, you couldn't put "MAW" on there for the high scores, for everyone to see

I bet it has nothing to do with it :-) but in reality if you like personalisation that's a pretty good place to engrave. The next owner can still grind it off, and make standard grips fit, or buy a new grip frame.

Perhaps they're planning to replace the side plate. Or just polish it out. Might be a fun, economical niche for collecting, guns with other people's names on them. Or you just make up some nonsense story to go along with it. That was the engraver's name, or I saved his life during the war and he gave me this in thanks, or I done kilt him to get it!

Yeah that one in the original post is laser etched, not engraved.
Someone else's name wouldn't deter me much if I liked the rest of it. Just another part of the gun's history.
In fact I would love to have a gun that said Dr Worrell! 😂
Cause that guy has good taste

I think having someone else's name, initials including wam) detracts from the value unless it is someone of superstar status within the firearms community and it comes with providence to prove they owned it.

I personally would never engrave my own name on gun. Possibly an alias or aviator but I do own a rifle that is electric engraver home done name and driver license # on it. The name is a friend and every so often in point out that I am partway to having all I need to commit identity theft. My buddy at one time had a plan going to steal my main deer rifle and was going to have the name “ Meatstick” engraved in the action but couldn’t get my brother to help him.

When I was young, had SSK engrave my name on my 375 JDJ barrel. Guess I thought I would live forever. 😂

I asked Alan Harton about a restoration on an etched S&W I liked. Went to the seller and offered his asking price minus the restoration cost. I did not get it.
