Sorry OP, I kinda took a left turn at Albuquerque, quoting Bugs Bunny now. If I had bigger hands a RH with a dot sight and an Alaskan would still be here. Guns you put in your will, because you won't wear them out. Oh, and I have more boom boom than I need too.

Trutfully I would say probably 95% of us do. It is the world we live in. My grandad was an exception to the old gun owder rules. He was a gun smith in El Paso Texas starting in the 1930s and was best friends with Bill Weaver of Weaver scope fame. My Aunts and uncles got almost all of his guns. I di get his Low Wall Winchester "Winder Musket" with a J 2.5 Weaver mounted that was given to him by Bill Weaver. My dad only owned 3 guns the whole time I was growing up. Once I got grown and started buying a few guns he thought I was crazy. My dad's dad only owned his service revolver wehn he worked for the Mobile Port Authority. It was a Colt Official Police .38. They had to buy their guns through some type of Gov program. No one knows (someone does) what happened to it. I would pay a small fortune to whichever family member grabbed it. I am sure it is gone for good.

Over the many years I've owned revolvers I always felt that the 4" barrel is a sweet spot in a field gun. I agree 4 inch barrel guns are ideal for a field gun. Have a Freedom Arms M83 Packer in 44 magnum, 4 inch barrel and SW 329. The FA for the heavy loads and the SW for the reduced recoil loads. Attachments:

I remember when S&W brought out their 696. Within minutes of reading about it in G & A I ordered one. It's really difficult to grab a different revolver when I head for the woods. The 696 and FA, Mod. 97 receive about equal time. I have to agree with reflex.

One of these two usually go with me to the woods in a Diamond D Guides Choice holster.

Nice gun...
Have one just like James except for the front sight...think it is a HiViz green FO dot...excellent sight picture.
Have a lot more guns than I'll ever use but I look at them as investments one can actively go out and enjoy...

Made mine a smidgen shorter. The SRH Alaskan grabbed my heart. I needed all three, 44/454/480. FWIW the SRH platform solves the grip frame and associated grip size issues. My front sights went Hi Viz. No bears here....Yet

I have seriously considered an Alaskan in 480. But I know sooner or later it would become a GP44 4" with an ovate barrel and I would be $5000 in it.

You have no idea how hard it is to resist sending this one to Bowen. I have even thought about getting a SRH and having a copy of bigbrowndog's .500 Linebaugh built. I shot it when I was in Texas in April. Such a cool gun.

I just got the rear sight in (Fermin/Ronnie Wells) but It will be a couple of weeks before I fool with it. I might carry the gun hunting between now and the end of deer season with facotry sights since it is sighted in right now. I have to figure out what front hight is going on it. I am going to shoot it with some of Randy Garrett's 330 grain hammerheads and then base the sight height from that. I have some that Randy sent me on my birthday when he still owned Garrett Cartridge. I talked to him not long ago and told him I was saving them for a special hunt. I am going to do it with this gun. This is the 2 dogs rear I ordered.

Reflex... That is a lot better setup than my Ruger "express" sights on one of my Redhawks.
