Watched two FA 97s sell in the last week or so...both were square butt .41 Magnums with black Micarta stocks. Both were LNIB.
The first up was a 5.5"...it sold for $1990+-. Yesterday was a 4.25" that I figured would bring about $2200...it brought the same as the 5.5".
Was surprised that neither broke $2k as I have seen several other 97 in other calibers bring $1-300 more...

Inflation, upcoming holiday season, etc has budgets tight. I've been noticing the same thing.
It might be a good time for those stalking a gun to pounce...

Within the last 5 years I bought 3 FA 83 field grades for less than $1k. They were all in immaculate condition. Also bought a 97 in 357 for $1200 if I remember correctly. When they decided to go up, they went UP in a hurry! Like a dummy, I got rid of 2 of the 83’s that were 7.5” and just kept a 6”. The 97 never felt right in my oversized paws so I sold it too. An 83 in 44 amd 41 are definitely on the radar but they seem to bring a premium over the more common 454.

Any time a FA goes for under $2k it's a steal.

This past summer I scored an FA 83 in .454 for $1,600, plus a load of ammo, brass, bullets and dies. I guess not everybody wants to mess with the auction sites. I did have to drive a couple hours to pick it up. Worth it, in my book.

There was a time before their crazy price hike where my cutoff for a 97 was $1300….
They were commonly available for that and it wasn’t just so long ago.
No more.

I sold a FA-97 44 Special last spring for $2000. Just bought a FA-83 Field grade in 41 Mag for $2100. Gofigure.

I've seen several nice "used" (LNIB) 83s in .44 Magnum for sale over the last few months. Most have been in the low to mid $2000s... www.gunbroker.com/item/1019279581
