So a while back I added a 38 Super barrel to my Kimber Eclipse 10mm along with a couple of mags, actually 3 mags. The barrel is a Wilson match grade barrel & it shoots great although I don't have a lot of rounds down the barrel. I've mostly shot 128 gr. PC HP's & 140 gr FN PC solids & both bullets have shot very well although the brass does tend to fly about as far as the 10mm brass.
Since my good buddy Bob (RJM) has lead me down this rabbit hole I decided to jump in a little deeper....what the heck! Since I have a LOT of 9mm brass I decided to go with a Wilson match grade barrel & see if my luck would hold out. If I lost 9mm brass it would take several years to lose all of it before I ever had to worry about picking any of it up. I do have it sorted somewhat, the Winchester & Remington weigh almost exactly the same so they go into the same bucket, the Federal is a bit heavier & goes into another bucket & everything else goes into another bucket. I have LOTS of 9mm brass!
For many, many years going back to my USPSA days I relied on WST powder to get the job done & I've always used it in my 40 caliber revolvers & also in the several 9mm's that hang out around my house. I have a fair stash of WST & I'm quite surprised more people don't use it. It's pretty close to W231 on the burn rate chart but still if you are going to give it a test drive start low & work up. You don't see a lot of load data for WST so my load data isn't church approved.
For the 128 gr HP I mostly use 4.3 grs of WST & get around 1175 fps for a 4" barrel. This 1911 Kimber has a 5" barrel & feels like I'm shooting a paint ball gun but I didn't chrono today, it was too cold. I also shot a very few test loads with the 140 gr FN using 3.9 grs but my fingers were really cold by the time I had ran the 128's so it wasn't a fair fight. Here's the 2 targets with the 128 gr HP's with 4.3 grs of WST at 15 yds standing with my left forearm resting against a steel beam. 3 shot group & then an 8 shot group.
