Well the dog has poked me in face with that cold wet nose, the sun is a faint red glow on the East. I check the fenced in yard for bear before the two dogs are let out, Also lets me feel the temp, lately cold. They don't stay long in the cold, So I get to start the coffee pot while it's still dark and watch the local muley herd wander around, drinking coffee as the sky lightens up, the younger bucks are learning to push each other around, And when to run if the boss takes note. Over the years a buck or two have gotten hung in the wire (not barbed), they seem to jump the wire for the joy of it or maybe they just wish to push on one thats on the other side. Have a nice day Don K

Except for the cold it sounds like a great morning and a good pot of coffee is a mighty fine thing.

Watching a herd of Muleys from my front porch is a mighty strong temptation. I guess I would have to be holding a coffee cup instead of a sixgun as well. Sounds beautiful.

Ah, morning coffee. This morning I made mine, stepped outside with my lab/pit mix and walked under my exotic fruit tree collection and looked up through them at the 3 story condo behind me. Gads if not for those trees it would be a gloomy view :-)
Doninnh, My dad's farm house was much like your situation only in the Catskills in upstate New York. I think his leaving that property did more to take him down than age did.

Here in the Alleghenies this AM it was snowing as the wife and I sat by the wood stove in the sun room. Watching the snow blow all around you, thru the glass doors, when there is a crackling fire in the stove is one of life's greatest joys. The doge like it also and a good mug of coffee just tops off the morning.

A buddy of mine used to have what he called his coffee elk.
He would have his morning coffee in his kitchen and would have a herd of elk that regularly wandered through his property year around.
They had a deprecation tag hunt for the area, long season for cows only, to reduce the herd in the land of ranchette properties, the idea of the long season is that you could get an elk at some point during the season but hard to predict when exactly that would be, especially during the short regular season dates.
So each year he would decide to invite an elk for coffee and his freezer, with a 30/30 usually out the back door at something like 30'. He would decide when season was open and his work schedule would allow he would go ahead harvest one and butcher for the rest of the day. He still had his real elk hunt with the guys every year, this wasn't an elk hunt just a harvest and filling the freezer.

You Know Fellas, Its posts like this that make me wonder why in th H E double toothpicks i stayed in this area of Texas all these years instead of going somewhere where sanity reigns supreme!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its bound to be better than waking up to the sound of a car horn rather than an Elks Bugle. My father had two large ranches in midwest Texas that i miss going to, everyday. What was i thinking? R

You had me at good coffee. That my favorite time of day.... drinking coffee and looking to see what is wandering through the yard. The picture through the window is what my wife sent me while she was expressing her gratitude for leaving NC for this view in Montana. This was from the bedroom window. On another note (but staying with coffee), I recently switched brands. I've drank Peet's Major Dickinson for years. I had some Black Rifle Coffee while on travel and Peet's was dropped like a bad habit. The Just Black is good and smooth. The CAF is for those of us who like a jolt (read double the caffeine).

Stuck waiting on my truck to get out of the shop. View at home not much better, hope to change that one day. My folks place in central oklahoma is one of these coffee places. Especially on a cool foggy mornin. During huntin season they use to keep the deer runnin back and forth across our place so they'd bed down and graze there. Sometimes you'd wake up to a herd of turkeys hangin out.
It's funny this bad motel coffee tastes a bit sweeter readin you boys' stories and seein your pictures.

I've a bad coffee story. At trout camp, april in Penn hills, we fish tribs of the Clarion River. The guys like to pre-load the coffee maker, on a timer. I'm up first oddly, been on 2nd shift for 20+ years. So pour the 1st cup and wander off, then sip. Aaaaack ! Gag, puke, and such. Go back to the coffee maker and open top and see the grounds. The grounds cup was filled to the top with drowned moths. I will NEVER preload a coffee machine again.

I have never found any coffee better than the local Dairy Queen makes. I need to try that Black Rifle stuff, I’ve heard several people brag on it. I generally drink mine sitting at the bar or sometimes on the front porch if it’s not too cold. My little Jack Russell that we had for 14 years had to be put to sleep a few weeks ago so the front porch is not quite what it used to be.

Lost our Heeler Maggie four years ago; 14 years of fun companionship on the road, shooting PDs out on the plains, five seasons in WY hunting camp; she was a 1/4 million mile dog. Took a while but got a replacement heeler, the Nellie Dog, a couple of years ago and she's settling in here in the hills nicely. Nothing like hot coffee and jerky dog treats in the AM by the fire. Have tried some of the boutique coffees and just seem to keep buying Folgers.

" So I get to start the coffee pot while it's still dark and watch the local muley herd wander around, drinking coffee as the sky lightens up..................." Can you imagine the image that created in my mind? My mornings are not so pastoral, but equally enjoyable. Some time back my pastor challenged us to practice BBB :Bible Befor Breakfast. So I start my coffee as soon as I get out of bed, then have coffee with Bible reading and meditations. And this time of year, when maybe a cold rain is falling and my hous is warm............. To the finer, simpler things, boys. Mrs. Ramrod-of-the-Whole-Operation gained her position through the skillful use of a coffee pot, among other admirable attributes.
