We know the Anaconda can take the .45 Colt but what about having a .44 rechambered to .480 Ruger? Is there enough room with the bigger cylinder? ***** Handled a new Colt Anaconda .44 Mag today. To my eye & hand, much better than the first generation. Visual impression of new Anaconda* Excellent workmanship and finish = A+ * Somewhat chintzy rear sight. * Good looking bore. Typical Colt left hand twist. * Short, concentric, smooth forcing cone = A+. * Smooth chambers and exit holes. * Chamber-to-bore alignment unknown. * Excellent carry-up & timing , SA & DA = A+. * Double action light & smooth = A. * Single action heavy & chunky = F. * Lockup tight = A. * Grip appears to be Hogue rubber, with too much finger ridge. Not wrap-around. Excellent fit. Cannot grade without shooting. * Price tag $1,450. Having not shot it, I cannot ballistically grade bore and chambers, which appear excellent. Having spent years with the .44 Magnum, I cannot attest to its alleged anemia. Before opening it to .45 Colt, I’d want to be sure the tenon & bore can be done right. Wouldn’t consider an Anaconda for the .480 Ruger. David Bradshaw

While not a rigid single action even the SRH action has the crane locked. Cylinder aside, the Anaconda would be at a disadvantage in this regard.

I picked up one of the new 8” Anacondas about 8 months ago. It’s been a great gun so far. Very accurate. The single action pull left a little to be desired, but a couple minutes of stoning fixed that. I had planned on converting it to .445 Supermag, but couldn’t source any brass, so now I just shoot the 320 grain Bengal +L. At 1,600 fps, my .480 SRH can’t touch it for power.

Don't actually have a 480, but using cut to 480 length Starline 475 brass, it tops 1640 from a 475 Redhawk 6" by Reeder. 1615fps in a 7" BFR. It's also right there with #11FS and 1680. H110 is also knocking on the door. But it might not be a fair comparison. My bullet is very light at 360grs.
But before I would rechamber an Anaconda, I would probably just have it converted to a 5-shot 475 or even better, a 500L.

My 7.5” .480 SRH tops out at 1,320 fps with the 400 gr Bengal WFNGC +L loaded to a 1.765” COL atop a stout charge of H110 (essentially a .475 Linebaugh COL and powder charge).

Impressed as I am with the new Colt Anaconda, for gladiatorial loads, I can’t imagine it holding a candle to Bill Ruger’s Redhawk or Super Redhawk. The Anaconda is a side-late gun. Neither it not any other double actions equals the in-battery, momentent-of-fire cylinder lockup of the Redhawk/SRH.
However, for the person who wants a .480 Ruger or .475 or .500 Linebaugh Anaconda, make it or pay someone to make it. And, by all means, report your results here. David Bradshaw

Today I confirmed through my in the industry friend that the Colt Anaconda is constructed of 17-4 stainless steel and that the frame is forged.
