My LGS Manager got in two S&W 48 Classics this week. Knowing I have an affection for these guns, he kept them out of stock until I could check them out.
Both 6" guns and both were excellent. Fit and finish continue to impress me in this series.
The only visible difference was barrel gap. One was a constant .0035" and the second varied between .006-.007" as I rotated the cylinder.
I need not tell you which one I put on layaway.
I've got a mint condition Vintage 48-4 4" gun. But, really wanted a 6" in the stable.
So, I continue to add the Classics. So far I've added the M19, M27, M25 and now the M48.
I'm hoping either a M17 6" or M29 6.5" follows. Some of these can be hard to get...

LOL, Well clearly this one isn't everyone's cup of tea.
I'm a huge 22 Magnum fan. Been shy on Double Action Revolvers and trying to correct that slowly...

While I like the magnums my tastes lean harder toward the 22LR S&W Revolvers. We may need to start a rimfire S&W Revolver thread...

Stan, I thought seriously about calling about the S&W 22 LR you posted.
I'm not in any pursuit of big boomers these days. Still enjoy them, just well set on them.
These days it's small game and plinking guns.

I think I have a problem with 22 mag in a revolver. They just seem a little too "brite" when shootin them. When I feel the 22mag need I'm reaching for a carbine. I have a feeling if they came out with a mod.16 classic the sales would outstrip all the others, combined. I guess I can dream.

I've spoken with quite a number of people who don't care for 22 Mag Revolvers.
I've always liked them. But, limited to Ruger, Colt and Uberti Single Actions.
Figure it's time to give the cartridge a go in the Double Actions...

I can see putting a 2x on one and having a nice replacement for that 648 I let go years ago. One of my dumbest trades, ever.

I love the .22Mag but I just can't see paying 9mm prices for it.

A lot of folks feel that way and I certainly understand it.
Admittedly, this will be a small game and predator hunting pistol. Will not see many long sessions at the bench.
Still, I love the cartridge and what it provides in the woods...

The .22 mag in a revolver makes it like a .22 LR in a rifle or a little more. Hell of a squirrel gun

Nice find... Have had three 1970s vintage Model 48s over the years. One 4" with factory optional .22 LR cylinder and a 6" and 8 3/8" that I had the extra cylinders added to. All three went down the road a few years ago when I downsized the DA .22 collection... My favorite S&W .22 Magnum was never made...so I had one made... A 6" Model 35... ...one of those long barrel Packin' Pistols... Bob
