I’m looking at the Dan Wesson Guardian, but it’s a little spendy. I know where I can get a new Tisas Bantam for about $850 (New old stock, as it’s been discontinued.) Both the Guardian and Bantam are Bobtails, which I prefer. Can ya’ll recommend other reliable aluminum frame commanders (4.25”) in the $800 to $1200 range? I’m not a 1911 guy, and am quite ignorant on the subject, but have always wanted a lightweight commander. I would prefer a bobtail, as well, but that’s not absolutely necessary. Reliability is paramount. Thanks Matt

Have you shopped the used market? Look for a Dan Wesson Vigil Commander. They are discontinued but are out there, as are the Vigil CCOs. Nether is a "bobtail" but they are round butted. I have a few Vigil CCOs (Officer's frame with a Commander slide) in assorted calibers and they are outstanding pistols even though they were on the low end of the DW line. Never paid over $1k for any of them. Fit finish and detailing is superb as is function and accuracy.
good luck in your quest.

Tisas Stingray 4.25" 9mm, 26ozs I have the 9 Carry by Tisas, good shooter. I ordered a Tisas Bantam 9. Reviews say the magazines suck, and tight tolerances require some break-in. I’m use to glocks and Cz 75. I hope I’m not disappointed.

..a second for the Tisas Stingray...
Bought one a few months ago and had a .38 Super barrel installed. Shoots just as good as the DA Guardian I have...at 1/3 the price...

Springfield Champion (Commander size) and Compact (CCO size) are good choices. The Dan Wessons and the Springfields use ramped barrels in their aluminum framed 1911's so that hollow point bullets feed easier and don't gouge a ramp that is aluminum. I have had that happen to a couple of other brands.

Bob My SDS imports Tisas Bantam 9mm made it to my LGS today as I traveled up north to work in North Dakota for a week. The Bantam is supposed to be a slightly lightened version of the Stingray, with machine cutouts in the slides and texture flutes on the front and back of the grip. It was recently discontinued, but I’m not exactly sure why. While I got mine on close out for $824, the MSRP was $1200. I imagine most folks weren’t willing to pay that kind of money for a Turkish import, no matter how good they are. The crappy 9mm mags that come with didn’t help. I’ll report how it shoots when I get back and get past Colorado’s stupid new 3 day wait period.
