Never saw a reason to try to shoot wadcutters from my 38 Super. Nothing to gain but pretty holes in the target. FWIW at that point it is pretty much a 38 AMU anyway isn't it? Team issued me a S&W 52. Didn't like it so they issued me a Clark Custom 1911 38 WC gun. Didn't care for it either. Cycled to slow for me. Felt like I could feel the slide hit both ends.

Well Axe, the reason is I wanted a 38 AMU or a Smith 52 and a friend knew I was into 38 Super told me I could shoot the wadcutters from it. I didn't know the amount of the wadcutter that protruded from the case would let it chamber and he said it would. The rest was history. I sort of load them up hotter then target, still very accurate, but the pistol lets you know you shot a bullet. You wouldn't like my full size 1911 that I put a 30 Luger barrel in. Even really hot feels like you're shooting a 32acp. It's very accurate too and the bottleneck feeds great.

Stan, 10 shots into an inch at 50 yds is some dandy shooting for sure!! My 38 Super barrel is a dandy for sure, it's shooting just fine, just haven't got the extractor thing figured out yet but I will. Went to the range today, still using the extractor from my 10mm & tried both 38 Super & 38 Super comp, still jamming & I don't mean music!! I've got plenty of both kinds of brass, thanks for the offer. Should have my other extractor in the next day or two, tomorrow is opening day of deer season & Wednesday I have to take my wife for a hair appointment. Might be a couple of days before I get back to it. A gun that will shoot 1" groups at 50 yds is a real gem, the guy that can do it is somewhere in the record books I'm guessing!

Gets us into some singer and song discussion but Fulford was a special shooter with any handgun. Sounds like you are having fun... Enjoy.

Got my 38 Super extractor today, dropped it in & my Kimber sings like a Canary, yippee! Shot 38 Supers & 38 Super comps, both worked great.

All is well that ends well... Now you need a 9x25 Dillon barrel and die set to keep you busy...

All is well that ends well... Now you need a 9x25 Dillon barrel and die set to keep you busy... Hey Dick I shoot RCBS's 150 SWC's out of my 38 Super. That could do for a deer load. I've shot just about every kind of bullet out of mine. Fine caliber.

Actually I have a 150 gr SWC HP that I might give a test drive. Between you, Bob & Stan I've found a new toy to experiment with at the very least. This will be a fun change after deer season. Thanks for the help along the way guys.

Next find a Stainless Target Longslide 10mm...drop a Fusion barrel in and get ever more horsepower..

.38 Super Comp brass was invented for the competition shooters who use 17 to 23 round double stack magazines like the 2011s and EAA guns. The Super rims would not stack properly giving major feeding issues.
I have never see a Super barrel cut without a rim recess...no real sence in that as the recess allows the use of standard Super brass and several rimless variations.
Colts first .38 Super that a barrel that headspaced on the case mouth instead of the rim was the Accusport exclusive 1986 Super Elite. It wasn't until 1990 that Colt started using headspace on the case mouth barrels for all Supers as there were now other manufacturers of 1911 .38 Supers like Springfield Armory and Detonics that were kicking their Azz accuracy wise.
