Found myself a real nice user. Nothing much to look at but solid, good lock up, passes the range rod test nicely. A buddy called me asking if I was interested in a 41 Mag Blackhawk. Said the cylinder locked up and the base pin wouldn't stay in. He said his manager was going to send it back to Ruger for repair but wanted to know if I thought I could repair it and offered it to me cheap. I arrived at the shop and sure enough, the base pin slides right out. First thing I notice was the base pin latch couldn't be depressed. I right there that the spring had been installed on the wrong side of the latch. I also notice that this barrel had been shortened from factory length. I pointed out that Ruger will repair but will convert it back to factory condition. He said they loose money paying for a new barrel. Long story short, the manager knocks another $25 off and I walk out with a shooter grade .41 for $375. Two minutes with a set of screw drivers and the base pin latch spring is now correctly installed and operating nicely. Super excited since I'll be getting a Bisley .41 from a friend in a few weeks. It'll be nice having a short and long barreled version. The grip frame will be replaced at some point, this one has a good many dings, mostly to the finish, but also could fit better. Still, all in all, a great way to dive into the .41 Magnum!

Hard to beat a 41 shorty, nice find! A quality trigger job & a set of sights from 2dogs/Ronnie & you've got yourself a winner

Yeah, 2dogs rear sight looks like a winner. I was sure I had a set of 41 mag dies but can't find them. Bummer. I was so looing forward to shooting this soon.
Maybe I should post this in the reloading forum, but, while I have your attention, anyone that casts, what Gas Checks do you use?

Buy a gas check maker. I use Matteson Mini Machine Shop. I've got both the regular and plain base versions.
A thousand checks are $60. A check maker is $115. Materials costs are about 4 checks a penny if you use aluminum. And you never have to worry about having to find some available.
Choose a single step version. The two stage versions are a pita dealing with the little disks.

Gotta agree with Sixshot that is a great size 41 for GP use. My first 41 was 4.2” FA97 and the size makes it a favorite for field use. Enjoy.

Found my brass. Just need dies. Figured out what Gas Check I need for my mold and Sage has them. Got a little shopping to do.

Just joking but sounds like you already did some "shoplifting". LOL! Funny, just today I put my exact copy of your pistol on my hip for the fall season. I kid you not. I can text a picture of it right now. Hey, all I can say is you were in the right place at the right time! Congratulations!
