Mr Hughes I would like to thank you for one memory that has always stuck with me these many years. I called you in the phone and you spent over an hour on the phone taking the time to talk to a young teen some 40 something years ago about a project I had in mind even though you knew I couldn’t afford it and it would never materialize. You took the time to tell my why certain things wouldn’t work and suggested ideas that would. I know I t know I took up an awful lot of your valuable time but you taught me how to deal with customers and people. So for that I thank you
PS: welcome aboard
Ronnie

Steven, all I can say after seeing that Dakota #10 is that it is both a good thing and a bad thing that we are both in the retired stage of life. The only rifles I’ve used the last 30-40 years have been single shots and a Dakota was going to be the next single shot I would get if I bought or built another one! Beautiful work Sir!

Still my alltime fav hunting rifle is the Ruger sidelever .30-40 and this is part of the reason why! I dreamed of hunting Kudu since I was a Kid, this was my only African hunt. Right where he fell, one shot.

I jokingly call the sidelever my 30-400, sounds more impressive. I've only hunted big game with that rifle for almost 30 years and took it to Africa. I've taken some 17 head of big game with it. 180 grain Nosler Partitions, with my handloads are the only bullets ever been down the bore. It has a heavy, 28" barrel and weighs about 10 lbs.

Oh what I wouldn't do to have been a fly on the wall in your shop Sir. Of course, I have more interest than actual talent...
