Well I just sold the CZ 527 .204 Ruger I bought and have been really wanting another Winchester 71. I was watching a few of them on Gunbroker and they were going for stupid money and even the Brownings were going for more than what I thought the Winchesters should sell for. I am not talking collector quality either. These were ones with recoil pads and extra holes. Well there was one I was watching that didn’t have any bids with about 4 hours left so I put a bid on it for what I was willing to spend, which was the exact price of what I sold the CZ for. We had gone down to Gainesville for one of my wife’s follow up appointments (she is doing fantastic by the way and thanks for all of the prayers) and were about to head back when I put in the bid. I had basically forgot about it since I figured it would quickly go above my price. I checked my email a couple hours after we got home and no one else bid at all! Looks like I will have to hunt with a rifle at least once this year after all. As I said it ain’t a collector but looks to be in good shape with some decent checkering added and it was D&T for a side mount and the stock cut and a pad added. I will replace the old vented pad with a red Winchester version and hunt it for now and maybe do more cosmetic stuff later

Love properly worn guns and that one look just right. Besides I’d rather have a recoil pad anyways. Good buy

They are not a lot of fun from the bench after the fifth shot or so! The results on game are simply amazing though

Nice find! I think John Powers could fill the side mount holes and blue it so it looks almost perfect...tj

They aren't made for the bench. You might try just shooting from field positions, less bruising more fun. That is a very handsome rifle.

I'm curious what the tally was. (you don't have to post it) I keep looking at these two. They both have serious issue from a collectors standpoint. Honestly I can't decide which one is worse. lmao But they're a ten minute drive away, so no shipping, no transfer fee makes me keep looking at them trying to convince myself they're not that bad. lol www.gunbroker.com/item/1010046939www.gunbroker.com/item/1010232871

That first one is tempting. My bid was about $1200 and I didn’t look again. I would tell what it was total gun broker is down so cant tell the exact price) plus TAX and shipping

Top one went for more than I thought it would. (I did not bid)
But gunbroker is a funny thing. This month I watched a rifle cycle through three auction. (there may have been more) $775 no bids. Second auction, $750, no bids. I came close. Third auction, $725. My plan was to grab it for that at the end. People bid it up to $850.Go figure.
