1970 was the year that the steel frame Combat Commander was introduced in 9mm, .38 Super and .45... The Commander in .38 Super is my favorite gun...of all guns. Have been carrying one daily since 1980. Most of my Supers have extra 9mm barrels. Have both the Tisas Stingray and Dan Wesson Guardian..both BobTails. The Stingray just got a .38 Super barrel installed and shoots JUST as well as the DW or Colts....for 1/3 the price. The DW stated out as a .38 Super and had a 9mm barrel added. In addition found a complete DW Guardian parts kit in .45 ACP that dropped onto the Super frame with no modifications... Bob Agreed. For the most part the Commander has been my life long fave 1911 platform, and most of my EDC's are ramped steel .38 super commanders though I do have one in .40 and a fun Commander in .357 Sig. The commander length is perfect for me carried AIWB on my motorcycle and sitting in my truck without mashing my gonads :-)

A good while back Colt made 1000 blue Gold Cup Combat Commanders and 1000 of the same in stainless. I have the stainless Gold Cup Combat Commanders. One of my favorite 1911's. I also have a 1911 that I build in 30 Luger. Sweet shooting pistol. I also love my 38 Super I built. I have an off brand long slide 1911 in 10mm. That long slide takes a lot of bite out of the 10mm.
