Just checked trail cameras last weekend. Lots of does and fawns, a bobcat, and a few bucks. A decent ten point; but no monsters.
Saw most of the bucks on the cam next to neighbors property. Not a great place to hunt it from our side. Have to do some more scouting.
Overall, a little disappointed. Had some bigger ones on camera after last hunting season so had hoped to see them on one of the cameras.
Have had cameras side by side before with one capturing a lot more so don't have complete faith in the cameras; but...

I've used cameras on my property for many years. I've observed a few patterns.
Some deer are "residents" and are seen often. Some are seen once & never again, I call them travelers. Then the biggest thing I've noticed,, is a pattern according to food & pressures. If a good food source is available,, OR,, and this is important, when the food is at it's best,, (acorns, or whatever greens are just right etc,) you will see more. But trying to expect the same bigger bucks all the time as residents is nearly impossible. Most of the bigger bucks are "travelers."

I put mine out three weeks ago and checked them on Sunday, same report as you. However I am looking for blacktails, bears and elk. Saw a small heard of elk in the timber as I was sneaking in to a few cameras. Wind was perfect, coming straight into my face form the elk. I shadowed them for a few hundred yards and then changed course to check a camera. Was really cool being able to do that, they didn't have a clue I was there, could have easily taken a large bull and a smaller rag horn bull. It made my day being close to them in the woods like that.
I have the same experience with bucks, except most seem to disappear a week or so before season opens. Some hang around and some new ones show-up, just in different places. Its all fun though!

Most of the bigger bucks are "travelers." Now that is a understatement...... but some of them keep a very strict schedule and travel pattern at some very crazy times. Often I see two almost identical big bucks traveling together and have had the opportunity to take both at the same time, though I didn't due to our regulations. Hard to choose which one!

The herd here on my place has really shrunk since the coyotes moved in. It wasn't unusual to see as many as 15 does moving from the bed to food sources. Now you rarely see 4 together.

I have to stay with the camera method.

I find them good for finding out where the deer traffic is highest, but my hunting buddies and I rarely see any of the specific bucks we catch on camera. The population seems to reshuffle quite a bit during the rut. Bears are a different story. The bear or bears we see on camera throughout the year tend to be the bears we see in the field that year.

Yep, never cared for deer “hunting” based on camera data. As for whether an area has good populations or an decent amount of activity,…..sure. Trying to pattern movements from camera data, no.
I’ve always been of the thought, the animals are out there. Whether, cold, rainy, hot, dry, snow whatever. They most certainly are not sitting by the fire, drinking coffee, or beer, watching the game on TV.

I've only killed one buck that I actually caught on camera a couple of weeks before, but most bucks that I see on my cameras are never seen while hunting. Who knows about the does. Bucks that I get on camera move to other places when the season opens. Others move in during the rut.
My cameras capture in order of frequency since 1983... Does, Coyotes, Wind, Rabbits, Crows, Doves, My neighbor's dogs, Cats, (domestic) Foxes, Rac-Coons, Turkeys, Possums, Skunks, Me, Bobcats, And lately, Armadillos. On a few occassions, neighbors, horses and tresspassers.

Down here a camera wouldn't last long on a tree. If the lightning didn't get it, tenderfoot trailblazers would.

To see all the deer here all I have to do is start the chainsaw or the tractor.

Checked cameras again. Still nothing too exciting. Several more of that nice but not great 10 point on one camera and several of a nice but not great eight on another. Volunteer turnips from food plot made three years ago still coming up and not touched. See lots of deer just no super great bucks yet.

I have a few cameras up where I hunt. Just for fun really, usually they're not in places I want to hunt, just where I know I can leave them for months at a time without them getting taken. One spot in particular, I get deer like crazy, 9 months of the year. Then like someone throws a switch, October, November, December there's very little traffic. (of course those are the months I want them there)
I think the thing I've learned most (other that my family members and their friends never look up in the woods) is probably why the turkey population seems so low in recent years. Lots of fisher activity, lots of fox, some raccoons and coyotes.
