Shoot it and see how the front sight height works for you before removing it - so you can tell Fermin what height you need.
They all should have been screwed on or at least had a pinned-in blade. Would have made the upgrade so much easier. Maybe when that sight was newer and crisper and my eyesight was younger and crisper, it would have worked, but both wear with age and eventually need some upgrading.
2dogs can set things right.

If you're going to do any long range shooting you might want to rethink going with the gold bead, a post style front sight from Fermin will probably suit you better. Also with that shorter sight radius you might, just might want to narrow that front sight.

If you have access to someone with a milling machine you could cut the front sight flat to the base then cut a 3/8ths dovetail in the base. Literally hundreds of sight options then.

My use for it is going to be just for carry in the back country. Being a 4.5" barreled SBH, it fits the bill perfectly. That's why I bought it. I had another 4.5" barreled Old Model that was absolutely Perfect. I loved it. In mint condition with aftermarket halfmoon ejector rod and custom cylinder pin. My son moved to Wyoming. He had a 7.5" barrel SBH that he hated packing around. I told him I would send him the Old Model to carry but if I ever moved west I would want it back. Well, here I am, he loves it, and I don't have the heart to take it back from him.
I'll practice and have it dialed in to a maximum of around 40 yards. I think it looks great as it is (minus the front sight issue). No reason to reblue and the grips fit my hand perfectly so no need to change them out either. Just going to shoot it and carry it and add more patina of memories to the old girl.
But I do appreciate all the input, that's why I like this forum so much.

Fix the front sight so YOU can see it and put YOUR OWN patina and memories on it. Sounds like a good plan to me!

sweet find. as we are all making recommendations for sights. an aperture rear sight from warren outdoors, like the old one ragged hole, and a HIGHVIS LITEWAVE from midway. works for me, then there is nothing wrong with my eyes, my arms are just too darn short.

Nice gun with cool character. I wouldn’t change a thing.
