This has to be one of the first times someone has defended himself against an Alaska Brown Bear successfully with a 44 Magnum. I remember an article from years ago in Alaska magazine talking about your chances of being mauled to death by an "enraged wounded bear" increasing exponentially if you were ever to shoot one in a defense situation with a 44 Magnum. This man is the sort you want to have with you when serious danger is about to happen.

Several of the "you tubers" up in AK tout the 10mm is very popular up there for carry while fishing and hiking with 200, 220 cast bullets.
I would prefer a 12 ga or heavy loaded 45/70 or 50 AK. But it would be hard to fish or hike with one of the Long guns.
A 475 Linebaugh or 500 Linebaugh in a chest holster would be my first choices for a revolver for the big brown bears. My preferred carry choice would go in order as follows 500 Lb, 475 Lb, 454 casull, 480 Ruger , 44 magnum, 45 colt, 41 mag, 10mm.
Of course a 10mm could pack fairly easy as a backup to the big bore revolver.
The 44 Magnum may not be the king of the hill power wise anymore, but it worked!!

Is it because it's a great choice, or because it's the best choice for them? I often joke that the 10mm is an extreamly powerful handgun cartridge... to people who've never fired a powerful handgun cartridge. I'll give it that 10-13 rounds of 10mm can make a swarm of bullets. And beating up on, or possible losing a $600 Glock is easier to swallow than a $4k revolver.

I would take a 10mm over a stick for brown bear any day! Lol
Wouldn't feel bad if it got all mucked up and had to be washed out in the creek either.

I’m curious what he was using t9 small game hunt bunnies with?? If it was a shotgun I’d ask why didn’t that get used first I mean it’s in your hands??? If it was lost during the attack then I get it. If it was a 22 then I get it, but odd that a long gun was being used and no shots from it.
