My rule, which applies to S&W, Ruger, Micro, Elliason, Bo-Mar, etc: the elevation screw should have 3-threads of engagement at its highest adjustment. For more elevation I hold a bit of front sight. David Bradshaw

Have two 60-10s (same gun as yours but no IL) and zero issue with zeroing the gun...
Also have a 63, 35, 317 and have had a dozen other AS J's with zero issues...
Should be a simple matter to back the adjuster screw out then remove the hold down screw and see what's what....

I get it! Not a happy solution I was hoping for a better fix, I think the new J adjustables have the rounded new style sight. We march on!

I think the best solution might be to calculate exactly how much higher you need the rear sight and make a small shim of that thickness. Then pull the whole sight, put it in a vice and put a bend in it. Reassemble with the shim installed, that way you could loctite and tighten down the rear adjustment screw and be set.

My SW 43 adjustment screw moves the sight up and down, 4 clicks per revolution as David said. There are two small pins up in the frame by the sight, one may be for rimfire bushed firing pin and other for rear sight, I don’t know. Mine is an old flat cylinder release gun.
