It's good to have good friends.
Kings6 - you can connect with Hells A Roarin when you're here. Before COVID they were taking about 10,000 people on horse rides. This was not one of their advertised rides as I went with one of the ranch hands a little off the beaten path.
On another note, one of their dogs was cornered by 9 wolves and it didn't make it. And the winter kill out here is pretty bad. Lots of dead carcasses from animals dying through the winter or dying from the overly lush vegetation after eating bark all winter. Definitely a predator imbalance with the bears and wolves. The wolves are after the foals as well.

I still hope to do their back country elk hunt someday but I need to finish paying for one last hunt for one of my sons first. I know the owner won’t let me use a handgun for the hunt so I went old school and bought a 1948 Winchester Model 70 Supergrade for when and if that day gets to happen some day.

What is the 70 chambered in?

This one is staying as is with all the age bumps and bruises as long as it shoots. It came with a period correct Leupold 3x9 but it is FINE crosshairs with no dot and Leupold is not doing retrofitting in their shop right now do I found a straight 6x with duplex and center dot.

Thank You for sharing the VERY nice pics. Memories refreshed for many of us here I bet. The 4th of July, early '80's, we got blizzarded off a mtn in Yellowstone. Back down at the truck, we were back in shorts.

The mountains have a way of doing that weather thing to a guy! I remember archery hunting mule deer at Hart Mountain Antelope Refuge in t he sweltering heat so we headed east about 50 miles to hunt on top of Steen's Mountain instead. August 31st, the next morning we were huddled on top the mountain in our summer archery gear in a snow storm!

Beautiful. I got accepted to Univ of Montana pharmacy school in 1993. Drove out there for my interview and camped out in Yellowstone a couple nights. I always wonder how my life would have changed if I hadn’t decided to stay home and go to WVU instead. 53 now and don’t know how I would do at handling the winters. Especially after sixshot telling me this was the worst winter he can remember in Idaho. 😂

Well....I'm 51 and we're here this trip to pick out our Montana home. So, we're eliminating the wondering. That said I've already been looking at snow blowers. 😎
