… guys to single actions
At the camp, I was asked to be the short range safety officer ( we had several chapel sessions, but we had Friday afternoon free for 4-5 hours and one of our options for entertainment, was a kind of makeshift pistol range… we had to bring our own guns, and ammo)
I brought 4-5, including my 45-70 BFR ( which I was not allowed to shoot it once I saw their printed rules... no magnums bigger than 357 )
I honestly figured I would be too busy to do any real shooting myself, but I brought 5 revolvers and ammo for others to try… I suspected almost all would be autos of the 9 or 40 variety, and I was correct… my 4” 22 J frame was probably shot the most, but one young guy 17-18ish, there with his dad, wanted to try my flat top Bisley, 44 special… afterwards he told his dad that was what he wanted, as he shot it a lot better than his dads autos… maybe a new single action guy in the future

That's a great way to introduce people to different styles of handguns. Not everybody cares for the semi-autos and many never get the chance to try something new.

God and guns? Sounds like a good time teaching young ones about reality

I have served as range master for a number of men’s retreats or father son events from church. From shooting clay birds with shotguns to handguns it has always been a positive and often eye opening experience, especially for first time shooter.
I think the best was when one of our pastors shot one of my 41s for the first time then asked if he could shoot the JL 475. I had loaded up some mild 900 fps loads that did the big push recoil rather than some of the “livelier “ loads. After a little coaching on grip and hold techniques he shot the first round and it was instantly followed by the biggest “whooooooh” and a grin that went from east to ear. He immediately asked if he could shoot it again and I told him he had 4 more rounds in the cylinder so go ahead! I’m not sure if we found a new shooter that day but we found a new advocate for the handgun community and one who took his target home!

Reminds me of the late Herb Parsons quote:
"Take your boy hunting, and you'll never have to go hunting for your boy."

Need more of this.

About a month and a half back we had 9 teenage boys stay the weekend with us for a discipleship weekend. I’ve been trying to come up with a day event the get the boys and young men back together. Y’all have given me some great ideas with this thread. Thanks all

Glad to here of this. I attend a church sanctioned shotgun shoot. First one of the season is this weekend actually. It is always fun. Begins with a devotional and potluck. Then we shoot some sort of shotgun game. It's always a lot of fun.

I actually took a pretty interesting group of guns... all got shot some... took my S&W No.1.5 with factory "red" grips ( albeit with my pop gun reloads ), my stainless 4" 22 J frame, one of my pair of custom cartridge converted 51 Navies, ( in 38 Long Colt ), took my Ruger Flat top Bisley in 44 Special, & took one of my pair of CASS guns a Colt Lightning gripped Ruger Montado in 45 Colt... one guy that was about my age wanted to shoot everything I brought at least once...
& of course I had my BFR, that we left in the truck, but 4 out of 5 of my guns used were a single actions... & there was one other guy shooting that had a 6" GP-100, otherwise all the others were autos, probably 3/4 would be considered "carry guns"
it's been a while since I've shot the No.1.5, but I put all the shots on target with it, so it still performs well... the gun I personally shot the most that day, was my staple gun... they just had pallets slipped over 5 T posts, at the base of a big hill, so we stapled the targets on the pallets... about 30 shooters total... they kept me pretty busy... but everyone had smiles all day, & I had run everyone out of ammo after about 3 hours of shooting...

Very good thread. Hope for the future. STAPLEGUNS ! Guess we all have them. How'd we never discuss them ? tongue-in-cheek mode engaged...anyone have theirs engraved ? Nitre blue highlights ! Mine has a small rectangle of yellow tape, to ease I.D.'ing amongst big groups at range.

topic kinda reminded me of this... youtu.be/1PKKrphaSNMmy staple gun on this trip was new, a compact model, as I was traveling light... only issue, is it takes different staples than my other 2 "regular" full sized staple guns... but the staples are a regular stock item at the local hardware store... ...hmmm staple gun customization... we had guys there from 9 states, & this was one of the safest, most polite groups of guys I've shot with...

Y’all have given me some great ideas with this thread. Thanks all Rufus, Might I suggest you throw some air guns in the mix? You'll be surprised how much they get shot. I've done that and the kids just won't quit! The adults are almost as bad. My brother ended up ordering a C02 pistol for his wife right there, she enjoyed it that much. And a friend shot my air pistols and within a year had more, and more expensive guns than me. Great way to make converts.
