I remember Alan H. telling me they (two) only lasted twice each before wearing out. But maybe there were more made available.??

While the .257 JR was a lot of fun it was also a lot of work and I would suggest that you simply build a 25-20 instead. That said, I would kill to have my original 257 JR sixgun back.

When Fermin and I did the Jackrabbit, I ordered the reamers from Pacific Tool. I simply had them take a .25-20 and cut the neck length to 0.170" (total case length = 1.130"). Also had them grind the pilot to 0.257" for revolver cylinders. But I agree with Fermin...for all the trouble, you're better off just building a .25-20 Winchester. Now a .25-20 is too long for a Single-Six, but it would be great on an OM .357 frame or the NM flattop. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

Well, I have to disagree with Lee to some extent.
The 25-20 is too long for an unmodified Single Six Window. But, easy to cut the window longer to accommodate the cartridge.
I've had two 25-20s and a 218 Bee built on the Single Six Revolvers.
The long original neck is excellent for 85 grn Cast Bullets...

True, you can mill the frame window for the full-length .25-20 Win. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

I did my 257 special ( it was mine, nothing else was considered when we made the gun, but alas, nothing is new under the sun ) mine started out with a chunk of 25 caliber rifle barrel as a blank, & 22 Hornet cases blown straight, & trimmed to the "factory" length, with normal practical lead bullets, of the Single Six Cylinder ( even though a custom 8 shot cylinder was made to fit the factory cylinder window )... this to date has been one of my favorite & most practical customs... not as hot as the JR, but IMO, just as fun...

I bought one from PTG in carbide since I had been warned about the wear issue with HS. You just have to be very careful with carbide because it is so brittle and chips easily. Use light pressure and don't cut too deep & clean-out chips often. I cut with drill bits to get a majority of the material out and then chambered all six chambers in an OM SS no problem.
