So when my son turned 21 in Wyoming, I shipped some handguns to him. One being a Super Blackhawk with a 7.5" barrel. Not the easiest packing gun especially when he is only 5'8" and 140 lbs. Fast forward he wanted an OM SBH. I had the perfect packing SBH. An OM with a 5.5" barrel. Being in NY I really had no need for it as my .44 special took care of anything NY offered ad four legged predators. So I sent it to him with the caveat that if I ever moved west, it would come back to me. And now living in NW Montana, the four legged predators have become much bigger than what is in NY. Boy would I love to get that 5.5" SBH back and wear the bluing off of it in the field, horseback, hunting.... but he absolutely loves it. Guess I'm on the hunt for my own 5.5" OM SBH What we won't do for our kids. Here's the SBH that seems to be stuck in Wyoming.

Can’t even come close to remembering what guns and knives I’ve already passed to my kids and grandkids.

As a Dad,, we rejoice when our kids appreciate what we gift them.
PS; I'm not letting go of my 5.5" OM Ruger. Mine wears a Bisley g/f.

My daughter is almost 30. When she was about seven, we stopped at a gun shop to check on a rifle I had ordered. She said she didn’t see any kid size guns. They did have a Marlin 15Y they let her check out. She decided she’d like to have it so I bought it and canceled the New England single shot I’d ordered. A few years later when Ruger came out with the compact 10/22, I had to have one. When I brought it home she immediately claimed it, so eventually I got another for myself. Recently we went to the range and I had her shoot my S&W 43C 22 revolver. She enjoyed shooting it and shot it well and thought it would be a more practical carry gun for her than the 9mm Shield she had bought herself. Her birthday is next month so I ordered a 43C for her.

My constant companion when I’m in the woods or deer hunting is a Flat Top .357 4 5/8”. It has an old set of Lett Linen micarta grips on it that has been on many different guns over 30 years. So it’s a nice looking gun. One of my sons that is 16 always says to me. When you die I want your .357 with the white grips. I always tell him don’t plan on owning it too soon. Lol

My youngest drug me away from my table at a show, long time ago, when she was six or seven, to show me the neatest little gun - an old letter-SN Bearcat.
It was (is still) finish-worn and had been well-used but well cared for. I told her we could get a new one, all nice 'n shiny, but no, she wanted THAT one. I don't even remember what it cost, but because she fell for a tired-looking old dog and insisted THAT was the one, so I bought it. She still has it.
My oldest commandeered my '72 MKI with Micro sights and 5.5" bull barrel. I had even bought a brand new MKII with adjustable sights and a 5.5" bull barrel, but with the polymer grip frame to try to divert her attention from the MKI. No dice. She didn't fall for it. SHE still has THAT one.

Good young'uns deserve the best. My mom always did for me, and I miss her dearly. She's been gone 2 years now. I have her Single Six (which I gave her about a decade prior), and it's one of, if not my most prized possession.
