Can't figure out why he would have Jack do a barrel then have someone else ream the cylinder throats?

From the frame markings it looks like it started out as a Plain Jane .45 BH...added all the Bisley parts and new barrel...probably gained 6-10 oz. on an already not light gun...
A custom gun is kinda like marriage...once you're into it it sometimes isn't what one envisioned..that's why there is GunBroker and divorce courts...
...and both are gonna cost ya...

Serial puts it as a 7-1/2" blued Bisley, may have had the cylinder fluted or had one made with tighter chambers.

Was weird that he states custom cylinder from Jack and then had it reamed. If it was built with a new one that should not have been necessary 🤷🏻♂️

FWIW, Doug Phillips doesn't ream throats, he uses a Sunnen hone and hones them to the desired diameter. He also does outstanding work. But yea, why get the cylinder from JRH and then send it out for honing?

FWIW, Doug Phillips doesn't ream throats, he uses a Sunnen hone and hones them to the desired diameter. He also does outstanding work. But yea, why get the cylinder from JRH and then send it out for honing? Because Doug does FAR better work with the Sunnen hone. I was a machinist for many years and am very familiar with the Sunnen small hole hone , ran one pretty much daily for about 15 years , unfortunately the top gunsmiths who use them do not understand how to run them properly . I have had several cylinder ruined by the top names , I will not mention them by name in an open post. The hone is easy to run once one is trained properly and develops a good feel for the tool . The honed piece must stay toward the center of the mandrel if the piece is smaller than the mandrel or the piece will become belled at either end, measuring throughout the process is critical to keep this from happening and cyl hardness being all over the board with different batches of cylinders complicates this. It will seem good to the unskilled who measure them with a plug gauge as the center of the honed throat is usually the correct size , BUT the entry and exit of the honed throat is usually upwards of .460 plus in the case of .45 and sometimes much bigger . Also most do not use a proper cabinet with honing fluid bath to keep the stone clean and work piece cool or keep it dressed with a stone metric . The top two guys in the business use dry stones with a shot of WD-40 and they are run by shop laborors who are not trained to run the hone properly . I have heard from these same "top" guys after calling and bitching about the cylinders being wiped out , that "the cylinder throat dimensions dont really have anything to do with accuracy , it is all in the barrel " also "the bullet is like a big piece of chewed gum and will conform to the rifling regardless of what size the throat is " ......yea . Anyways, just my own personal experience, take it for what it's worth . Smiths that I have gotten properly nicely machined cylinders back from that measure correctly are : Alan Harton, Clements, Doug, cylindersmith when he was still doing it and Horvath (never used Gallagher, Tyler or Stroh, but have used most all the other big names)

Also missing the engraved JRH that Jack has been putting on his guns for years.
