I've got the exact same thing with black micarta. By far my favorite 97.

...current retail would be $3865 and an 18 month wait...plus ivory Micarta is no longer available...

Within a couple hundred of what it would cost to build without the wait.
The only thing with the gun is why would you do all of the upgrades and not get the action job added to it?
Regardless it looked to be a fine gun that I would live to add to the safe if the timing was right.

Why pay for 2 action jobs?

I was high bidder for a little while, anyway. Very nice gun. Had I won it, I might woulda carried it on the next Montana backpacking trip, even though it wouldn't be the BEST bear medicine, Elmer Keith carried .44 Special in Grizz country for a number of years.

...figured it would bring at least $3k but didn't expect it to over $3500...
But for someone who doesn't want to wait it was worth the price...

I was sorely tempted but couldn't rationalize as the price escalated - with the exception of the round butt and ivory micartas, I have the same gun in .45 Colt plus 45 ACP aux cyl. Paul

SMJ had a 97/.45-.45 ACP/4.25"/ RB Black Micarta last summer for $3100... Just couldn't justify it as I had just put a .45 ACP cylinder on a 72 Ruger BH that I had found... ...but now wish I had...
