My first double action revolver was a no dash 57 acquired in 1976. Still have it. Shot it in IHMSA events back in the 80’ s.

MY FRIEND CHUCK FREDIEU DID AMAZING THINGS WITH AN 8" STAINLESS STELL DW IN 41 MAG IN IHMSA EVENTS BACK IN THE 80's, IT WAS INCREDIBLY ACCURATE AND HE WAS AN EXCEPTIONAL SHOOTER.

The "Special" wasn't needed as there was a "Special" load right from the beginning...
When the .357 and .44 Magnums came out there was only one load MAGNUM, as there was already .38 Special and .44 Special for practice/small game... The .41 Magnum had two loads from the beginning, the MAGNUM and the POLICE which was only about 100 fps faster than the .44 Special... Although the original POLICE loads are gone smaller companies like HMS has Cowboy Loads that run about the same as the original loads...with a much better bullet.
It would be nice if the .41 Special could be certified by SAAMI because it could be put in the Python/GP-100/SAA for a true Special size gun...

Pay attention to what Dick just said. He is right, and it kills somewhat better than the 44. Several bullets got designed to accomplish this and they do. The only problem with the 41 caliber is no one produces a factory 41 Special to go with it. Jamison has produced a 215 SWC rated at 1000 fps in true .41 Special brass. postimg.cc/rKxNYKSM

That is a stunning gun...
Reeds also has a variety of .41 Special loads but unfortunately they are out of everything right now... Starline isn't even taking orders for brass.

The ammo is prevalent, not something that is properly chambered for the short cartridge. My magnums are loaded with mag ammo. I've actually tried the old factory police load and found it wanting.
