Oscar I agree, there is nothing wrong with the XTP I used it prior to the Swift, and for deer or other light boned game it does a good job. Another good one is the Speer Unicore or deep curl. However I spend a lot of my time here in Texas dealing with feral hogs, so I much prefer an exit and if I can’t get that then as much penetration as I can, with some expansion. The Swift gives me that, if I’m actually hunting and can pick and choose my angle then the XTP or Speer are great choices. I use the Speer in my 657 for general hunting, and previously used the XTP with no issues.
When the topic of larger heavier boned game comes up I again prefer an exit, so a heavier tougher bullet is my preference for penetration. Since Hawk bullets is the only manufacturer I’m aware of that offers jacketed bullets heavier than the standard 210gr. I had them make up some 230 and 270gr bullets for us from my 414SM. They could be used from my other 41’s if I wanted to go hunt elk or moose or bear. However I have other guns better suited for that task as well. The lighter bullet even going faster is going to slow down faster so the momentum gained from the heavier bullet is my preference.
My thoughts are that the bullet is the only thing we have with us that is going to make contact with our intended game while it is alive, and I want to send the very best I can afford. Especially for game larger and tougher than deer, for them or pronghorn a normal bullet does a fine job and wouldn’t have any issues with a normal 210gr. JHP/JSP.

Give some Speer Deep Curls a try in your .41. Can't speak for a Freedom Arms but my Redhawk and Blackhawk really like them.

I practice with XTP’s and hunt with swifts Thanks bearskinner. I know not every bullet in a lineup will perform the same. I'm curious which Swift A-frames you have been most satisfied with as a handgun hunter? For example, "240 grain, 44 mag, deer"

I’ve used them a lot on the last 3 Africa hunts. The 270 grain 375’s perform great and will start to expand at some of the lower handgun velocities, where Accubonds and Hornadys do not expand. (1900-2000FPS) but they really shine at 2200. (375JDJ to 378GNR) I like 300 grain bullets in my FA83, 454. (1500-1600FPS) The Swift 300 HP’s pattern just like the 300 Sierras I shoot a lot for penetration. Fantastic performance with 95% weight retention. The 41’s shoot great, but I have not recovered one yet. But in my bullet traps, wet magazines, sawdust, boxes of sticks, and water jugs, they look just like a magazine ad. I’ve shot these Swift A frame hollow points directly into the ground, and they also look like a magazine ad.
