Was wondering what everyone is using for ammo, reloads, bullets, powder... At this point I have two...4.25" round butt and a 5.5" square... The 4.25" gets mainly the MP 411-649 that throws a 180 grain solid plus HPs and PPs.. www.mp-molds.com/product/mp-411-640-pb-hp-4-cav/Haven't shot the 5.5" all that much but have been mainly trying out the Accurate 41-215V, 41-250F and the lighter MP mold... www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=41-215Vwww.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=41-250FBecause of the shorter cylinder bullet selection is limited compared to a Ruger...the .32" crimp groove to nose length of the Accurate molds put the meplate just below the end of the cylinder... The .37 meplate is about as big as it gets in .41 and not a be wadcutter. Have loaded these up pretty hot and shot them at 100 yards..no yaw at all...nice round holes... ...so what is everyone else using.. Bob

I have a M97 in 41 magnum with 7.5" barrel. 210 XTP and/or 210 Deep Curl over 22 grains of H110. Gives right around 1400 fps and disturbingly accurate. I also have a load with a 250 cast (can't remember which one specifically) over 20 grains of H110 - also very accurate but haven't tested this one on any game yet.

Thanks...
Must be the 250 LBT WFN as that is one of the few that will fit.
Runs 1309 from my 4.25"...and isn't real pleasant to shoot from the "little" gun..

I've only had my 7½" for a short time, but its favorite load so far is the Nosler 210 JHP over 16.0 gr. of Shooter's World Heavy Pistol (like Accurate #9) and F150 primer in Starline brass for about 1350 fps.

The load Randy uses with his 210gr. Bullets is the same I use, from my 4.2 FA97 it gets 1380fps and is ridiculously accurate out to 150 yards, I use Swift AF and Hornady XTP from it.

I use a 210 XTP with 21 grains of H110 in my FA 97. It's very accurate and very shootable. I did try the 210 Swift A-frame but was a little disappointed in how much more space it takes up in the case. I ended up reducing the powder charge by a grain. I suspect it's a higher pressure load than the XTP. I'm curious Trapr, are you using the same 22 grains with the A-frame?
Thanks, Oscar

Yes Oscar I am and no issues. It shoots very well and is pretty much the only load I shoot in it for game.

Oscar:
FWIW, I dropped my H110 to 20 gr for the 210 A-Frame (from 20.8 gr with the other 210 jhps like Sierra, Speer or Hornady), still shot 30 fps faster (1,350) in a 6.5" Blackhawk.
Great hunting bullet, except for the cost.

Bob, I might buy that neglected 5.5 incher if you aren't going to use it. LOL.

Thanks for the replies regarding the Swift bullets.
dvmv, Your chrono result supports my experience. I lowered the charge to 20 grains like you and it still felt like a hotter load using the Swift bullet.

Has anyone compared performance of the Swift and Hornady bullets on deer size game or heavier? I would love to try my FA 97 on heavier game like cow elk.
Thanks, Oscar

I know some have used 357 on cow elk with success, do not know range or bullet, and think that 357 is a bit light. However, I personally wouldnt have issue with using my 357max on a cow elk, inside 100 yards, so 41 mag would be just fine at the same distances. Of the two bullet choices I’d go with Swift unless it just wouldn’t shoot in my gun, but I’d prefer a 240-250gr.

Thanks Trapr
If I understand your posts the Swift is your favorite hunting bullet but if you hunted cow elk you'd switch to 240-250 hardcast. This is the part that confuses me regarding 41 Mag hunting bullets. The XTPs will work on deer at 25% the cost of Swift. If not for something like cow elk, where does the Swift bullet fit in?
