So I acquired about 50, once fired 6.5 Grendel cases, to resell, at last years gun show… Going through some of that stuff now… I had never handled a Grendel case previously … looks like an ideal Contender cartridge… I didn’t throw a caliper one one, but they look like they would fit in a regular Magnum cylinder, albeit not with a typical long range 6.5 bullet… wondering if this is a potential revolver cartridge, with a proper bullet, and if such an animal exists currently…
Unfortunately, I’m not really an “AR” kind of guy, though I know many of the early Contenders started out with “AR” cartridges

I have the 6.5 Grendel in a 13" and 22" TC Contender. Also, a CZ 527 bolt action...
It's another one that causes mass hysteria in the unknowing.
Since powder burns in a column from back to front, it's extremely effective in a shorter barrel...

It does make a great single shot pistol round, or possibly in a long cylinder BFR. OAL keeps it from being an efficient normal revolver round. ……..IMO

LOL! I just saw another reference to .257" being a "6.5" the other day. Can't remember where or who it was.
Those CZ 527s are awesome! A real "Mauser" action built around AR-sized cartridges. I'd been tempted sorely to get one in 6.5 Grendel, because I'm also a 6.5 fan, but passed. I've also considered the 35 Gremlin, and even the 350L, but probably won't do it.
There IS a wildcat out there somewhere based on the .257" bullets in a x39/220 Russian case. I thought someone referenced it as being sort of a "25-PPC" unofficially. It may/might prove "better" (albeit marginally) than the Grendel, having a slightly better SD at the same bullet weight, but who knows how the smaller bore diameter would affect pressure/velocities once you got it running? Probably come out to be a wash, but it would likely still be a dandy with the Sierra 75 grain HPs in a CZ 527.

I will say that with the pressure and powder to bore ratio, I only use the Grendel on a G2 Action...

In my 13" Contender... 95 grn 2500 fps 100 grn 2450-2475 fps 120/123 grn 2300-2350 fps Those are good velocities for a 13” barrel,….they are only 100fps from those from my 16.5” AR, the 125partition is my go to bullet for pigs and medium game. I’ve been playing with the 100 partition but haven’t taken anything larger than 100# or so. Don’t know if a 257x39 wildcat makes much sense since the 6mm ARC is out there. But hey, someone went to the trouble of making a 25 Creedmoor when the 250Sav AI has been around for years. Trapr

Steve Herrett and Bob Milek had all this figured out decades ago. The short, fat powder columns work in abbreviated barrels.
I'd started reading about ARs with 12-14" Barrels. It's worth a Google Search and a bit of time reading. These guys, like the ones on this forum, are everyday Joes. You get real world information instead of compensated propaganda.
In the end, I went with 13" to split the difference.
I will say the Grendel looses ground quickly when bullets get over 123 grn.
For 140s, I had Bullberry build me a 14" 6.5x54MS...

I love the little Grendel round, I don't have much of a claim of wanting it in a contender at the moment, but CVA does make a single shot Scout pistol for it if you just want something that's a little more plug and play. I have their muzzle loading Optima V2 50cal pistol and I wouldn't hesitate buying another one in the future based off how that particular CVA pistol shoots.
I do have a Grendel in a Howa mini action that I built specifically as a light weight mountain gun for whitetails here in PA. With scope, sling and bullets in the buttstock it comes in at 6.1 lbs and shoots lights out for me with 100-129gr bullets. Mostly all of my shots are within 100 yards, realistically more like 50 yards, so I went comfort over cartridge power.
I would suggest getting into the caliber to play, it's turned quickly into my favorite to load and shoot.

one of my favorite "lil cartridges" is the 17 Fireball... would expect the 22 Fireball to be as much fun to play with... & look at the Grendel like the Fireball's bigger brother

The 6.5mm has a definite advantage in pistols. Since most of the 6.5 Cartridges originated in the late 1800s, bullets are made to expand at more moderate than those that were introduced during the Magnum Era.
As powder has improved, better velocities are obtainable with smaller cases too.
It's sad that the Single Shot Pistols are out of favor. There's so much going for them these days...
