Problem: I picked up my new Ruger New Vaquero today. .45 Colt, 4-5/8” barrel. Cycling the cylinder, it locks up on the same 1 or 2 cylinders - I cannot pull the hammer back. I did check the base pin - swapped with 2 others, and the problem was not solved. The transfer bar did not seem to catch on the firing pin. Therefore, I do not think it is a base pin related issue.
The loading gate spring seems seated. The pawl does not have any burrs. The ratchet does have some burrs on the outside rim of the ratchet - none on the notches. One of the cylinder notches is starting to peen. It sounds like a timing issue involving the pawl, ratchet, and latch. Above my pay grade and parts box depth. I hesitate to do too much self-help to it, in case I send it back.
Other issues - the cylinder latch rises very early, and also does not lock the cylinder until after the hammer locks. A “slow” cylinder. This timing issue is probably within spec but bothers me. The cylinder throats are less than .451”, what ever they were. I could not push a measured .451 bullet through. But this was expected. I size my cast to .452. Various minor cosmetic issues which don’t effect function.
I am most irked about the peened cylinder notch, in particular, which suggests a timing issue. I think I want the cylinder replaced even if they charge me. I don’t want to overwhelm them with requests. Other than the timing issue, do you think it’s reasonable to ask them to fix everything?
Not discussed: Lack of QC. What’s the point. The last Ruger needed Warranty work to correct the previous warranty work.

List the perceived problems as clearly and concisely as possible. If there are two problems YOU see that really are one ONE, they'll pick up on it. A long, rambling description (sort of like my posts) will make it difficult for them to pick the problems out of the verbiage. IF you try to infuse cause into the effect when you write it, it will make it more work for them. Let them determine the cause, even if you think you know what it is. Don't look for validation in your reasoning when you get it back, because they won't tell you what was wrong.
I've done a lot of work on Ruger SAs, but on a NM, I'd give Ruger a shot at it first. You start with good parts and can tweak/tune if desired from there. Starting with out of spec parts, tweaking/tuning is wasted and frustrating.
If you are NICE when you hit them up, they'll usually send you a prepaid label or even a box.

Yes. That’s good advice. I’ll list the symptoms. But I will ask for a new cylinder. Always polite on the phone. :-)

I had a similar problem with a Flattop 44spl. Eventually the pawl broke while trying to cock the hammer. I sent it back and they ended up replacing the pawl as well as "fixing" the frame where the pawl rides.

Ruger CS replaced the pawl, cylinder latch, and cylinder. Works. Throats in the new cylinder are tight. I will have to have them reamed again. One of the cylinder notches was peened. I requested a new cylinder and received one.
It is annoying to send the gun back, but I have to give Ruger credit for no-bs customer service. About 1 week turn around, plus transit time.

Ruger stands behind their stuff.
Remember,, they hire "gun parts assemblers,," not real gunsmiths anymore. An occasional problem does surface. Ruger takes care of things.
Glad you got it all worked out.
