As I go through the current ortho surgery recovery I like being able to spend time reading without feeling guilty about work g outside or in the shop. One of the older books I recently bought from the older gentleman I used to rude mules with is titled “Hunter “ and it was written by a Scotsman, J. A. Hunter, who moved to Africa and stayed to become a professional white Hunter, ivory hunter and government warden and animal control officer. The book was published in 1952 and it is amazing the similarities with Bells book I just read when it talk about shot placement on big game, the danger of crawling on hands and knees through thorn thickets trying to see an elephant who is only a few feet away but totally obscured and the resiliency of native trackers in surviving maulings, stompings and chewings!
An amazing life to have been lived!

WHEN I WAS BIG TIME INTO HUNTING AFRICA I READ A LOT OF AFRICAN BOOKS, MOSTLY BIOGRAPHIES/AUTOBIOGRAPHIES. WOW, EVEN INTO THE LATTER PART OF THE 20th CENTURY THERE WAS SOME GUYS LEADING AND LIVING ABSOLUTELY ADVENTUROUS LIVES.
ADDED 1/10/23: WAS LOOKING AROUND LAST NIGHT, I HAVE THAT HUNTER BOOK.

Hunter is one of the best African books you can get. Iirc he said he never had a Cape buffalo ever charge him.

Anyone Have a copy of Roger Rules book “The Rifleman’s Rifle” on the pre 64 Winchesters they want to sell. I’d like to dig into the old Super grade 270 I recently found. I think that would be a good one to read after I finish JTs latest book!
