Cleaning up in my reloading room, and getting ready for an up coming gun show ( I sell a lot of reconditioned brass ) last show I took in a couple boxes of 260 Remington, reloads… as I won’t sell reloads, I’m pulling the cartridges down, and will sell the brass… I hate the hammer bullet puller, but it’s been a necessity, for what I do…. The hammer would not pull these bullets ( galvanic corrosion, I’ve run into that before, pulling old ammo down) put a 45 caliber bullet seater into the press, and after a surprising amount of bullet crushing force, I got the bullet to “bump” in, but these were only 60 grain hollow points, and no amount of “whacking” would get the bullet to start its way out..
Hmmm… thinking there was a collet puller from FIL up on the shelf…. I was amazed at how easily & quickly I was able to pull all the rest of the bullets…
He had a full set of collets for the puller, and I’d never used it before… I think I’m putting the hammer away for good…
Just go to remember to pull the case out of the press, before trying to release the bullet,,, I got a pretty good bite from one of the case mouths… a lot of leverage on that lever🤓

had an old Box of 22-250... to pull down... same situation galvanic corrosion & light weight bullets... made excellent time using the press & the collet puller
I always knew what a collet puller was, I just never assumed in short order, I would be able to use it faster than the hammer

I’ve stopped using a hammer unless it’s a round I can’t get a good grip on with the collet.

only thing I can think of needing the hammer now, are those "flush with the case mouth" wadcutters... I did have a couple of those to pull, which I did before I had problems with those 260 Remingtons

I like the kinetic pullers (hammers) for when I make a loading mistake at the press. Easier for one round than setting up something in the press.

A dedicated pulling press is like carrying bandaids in the truck, you're gonna need it.

If you don't have whatever the right collet is for your needs, you can look at your collet assortment for the milling machine and/or the lathe and use them for the task
Hold the shell holder in the milling vise or in the lathe tool post, go from there

Ok… so I actually used the hammer again yesterday… I was setting up a new set of dies, for 35 Remington… not wanting to push the lil shoulder back, I was doing everything slowly, and at one point on my dummy cartridges, I pushed the bullet too far, and they slid inside the empty cases… I just poked the cartridge into the holder that happened to be in the hammer, and since the bullet was rattling inside the case, it took just the lightest tap, to free the bullets in just seconds

Reunited!
I'm getting images of you and your inertia puller running towards each other on a sunset beach with the soundtrack of Chariots of Fire playing in the background...
I love a happy ending

I'm either happy or maybe embarrassed to say I do not, nor have not ever owner an inertial puller. But I do use the snot out of my collet puller. Latest adventure was pulling down 280 rounds of 348 Winchester from an estate score. <and did that with a .338 collet, which actually worked splendidly!>
