My EDC is a 45 Colt single action snubbie… but I live a pretty tame life, most likely to use it on a 4 legged varmint… I do keep an ammo wallet for reloads in the armrest of my truck…
I built my custom 3” GP - 100 in 10mm rimmed, as a fighting gun, with fiber optic front sight, and ammo strips for reloading…
But agree a guy has to be prepared to lose, or at the very least have your gun tied up for a long time… have heard stories of nicely blued weapons, returned in Rust bucket shape

My feelings are shoot the gun that works best, if you survive, small price for being the walkaway winner. I'll trade my 850 revolver for my life, anytime.

I've carried this Model 66 every day since 1995: Namely because it's easy to conceal, I can hit well with it, and with 158 grain hollow points pushed hard, I feel confident it'll stop threats when shots are properly placed. -Lee www.singleactions.com "Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

I Will Still carry a valuable gun. My very rare and excellent model 66 Is worth at least 3 times the 650 I paid for it. And I will not be bobbing the hammer. To each his own, but double action shooting at 50 yards takes more skill than I am likely to ever have. But single action, A man sized target at 50 yards is likely to have a hole in it. Maybe not in the center of mass but hole someplace, It is maybe 10 weeks before I can go to my mountain again. I practice at 20 paces Double action, and then I just start shooting rocks can's sticks and what have you , single action. Making a foot long stick maybe 2 inches long jump 5 out of six shots at different angles , and distances builds confidence, and is ton's of fun too...tj

Back when I trusted in a revolver for self defense I used a 4" model 57 loaded with 170 gr. Sierra JHC over 9 gr. of Unique for about 1100 fps. I never had to use it, but had no doubt about its effectiveness. Now I use hicap autos, instead.

I carry a '69 vintage S&W nickel plated M36 loaded with +p RCBS 38-150kt's cast at 9bhn in general and at work.
When headed to the worse areas, it transfers to an ankle holster from the usual appendix carry and a Colt Delta Elite 10mm goes in an SOB rig.
When woods walking, I typically pack my Security Six 4" with Mr. Keith's swc over a max charge of H110 for predators regardless of leg count. It may also get some city carry instead of the 10mm if the mood hits me.

Like so many of you this has been an evolution of daily carry guns for me for years. Mostly autos of course, full sized 1911 Les Baer has been my #1 defensive gun for 20+ years now and if I had to pick something knowing was going to fight it would still be in my hip. For the last 3-4 years I, like so many have settled on a Sig P365 with a 12 round mag (fits my hand so much better than the standard 10 round mag) and a spare mag in my front left pocket. It is carried in a Barranti IWB holster on my right hip or a kydex appendix holster depending on mood and dress most days.
That said I carried revolvers daily for a 5-10 years in the middle of this progression and still do some days.
My favorite is a 2 1/2” 19 loaded with a stout 140gr XTP load, when I am in practice, I can keep 5 out of 6 on a 8” gong at 50 yards consistently. If I am in the back country I would swap to a 173gr Kieth or now a 180gr WFN load. Carried in a Simply Rugged holster it just works, I also have a dandy Barranti carved Hank Sloan for when I don’t need quite the level of concealment for it.
I have a 442 smith loaded with a factory 140gr +P load for front pocket duty. With that little booger I can hold my shots all on a 12” gong at 50 yards or head shoot a USPSA target at 15 yards. The finish is worn the alum grip frame has been rounded from wear with other stuff in my pocket but the gun just works and get called when I need to grab something, drop it in a pocket, and go.
I also have a S&W 25-13 Mtn gun that is packed in a Milt Sparks AW200, generally reserved for back county use it is an old friend and a real favorite of mine. In the backcountry it will be loaded with a 250ish he Keith or WFN load or a large hollowpoint 270-SAA bullet at 950fps or so. I have carried it in winter time under a heavy flannel, vest, or jacket around town with zero issues but it isn’t easily concealed I’ll say.
I have even tried a SAA 4 5/8” packed in a Milt Sparks summer Special holster a few times. The gun itself is something I am 100% confident in but the large cylinder under the belt I found to not be all that comfortable to carry. I could if I wanted to but there are simpler choices out there.
A couple years ago I added a Jeff Quinn Ruger GP100 4” 44sp to the mix but it hasn’t really taken hold. Nice size, great cartridge, but I don’t shoot it any better than the Mtn gun and it honestly isn’t any smaller and is a 5 shot so the Mtn gun wins out for me.
I am sure I will try other guns down the road just cause I can. The days when I feel like packing a wheel gun the S&W 19 almost always gets the nod. It just works and is very comforting.

I like my Smith M65 with 158 HP @ 1050. I save the 125s for an L or N frame. The other is a 3" 629 and looking for a 200-225gr HP load for it about 1000-1050.
