Went to the indoor range today and stepped to the firing line with my Smith Model 69 4.25" 44 Mag. Fired five rounds using a Weaver stance and shooting a hot 44 Spl plus handload. Threw the third shot. Then settled down and finished the group. 50 ft range. I just love this Smith.

Great looking gun and grips. Are they VZ grips? How do they handle recoil?

I sent off parts to have a .44 special S&W mountain gun built and the 69 makes me wonder why….
A square butt isn’t that important.

Great shooting Zeke! These guns will shoot. Here's a couple - cherry picked of course. My best 25 yd offhand group with the M69. . . Best 50 yd group - rested over range bag. Verified on different day. . . Both shot with 2.75" M69 . . Paul

Good shooting, gentlemen. Doubt I could aquit so well.... my limited shooting with the Model 69 in no threatens my connection to the meatier Model 29. For this shooter, a compact cannon must not forget that it is an instrument to play powerful music. You guys have it in hand. David Bradshaw

Thank you David! I'm a small man 5'8" 175lbs. My hands are proportional to my overall size. This L frame fits me so well. My N frames sit in the safe because I'm in harmony with this L frame.

I'm sized about the same and feel the L frame is scaled to me nicely. I took my 2.75 69 out the other day to dial in the Bowen rear to have an idea what I'll need when Fermin makes me a front sight, and I forget how spicy things get with the loads I'm used to shooting out of my FA 83. I think the FA97 and Mod 69 are in a similar class- Goldilocks guns for those they fit.

Thanks David. Not able to duplicate the above offhand group on demand (even a blind squirrel finds an acorn occasionally). Same physical stature as mentioned above - the L Frames and FA M97s just work for me. The older I get, shorter barrels also seem less tiring and easier to steady.

SanJuan65 Yes, they are a 250 lead HP. I believe I purchased them at GT Bullets.
dobegrant: Thanks I have VZs on weapons from J frame to N frame. This is their "rough" exterior model I think they are called Tactical Diamonds. Mag loads are a little rough on the hands but I will only shoot a couple of cylinderfuls at an outing. They lock that Smith into your hand for fast 44 Mag DA work. (if you can shoot a 44 Mag DA rapidly. Guess it depends on the size of the bear.)
