Last Friday my wife and I flew out to see our oldest son and his family which included our youngest grandson. Currently they live in Arlington. VA which just happens to be about an hour away from Waterford VA which is the home of Rob Rowen. I have a rather unique set of ivory grips that I was hoping Rob would take a look at so I contacted him and he was gracious enough to let Remington and I come to his shop and drop the grips off. While the grips were the main reason for the visit, the secondary reason was to let Remington meet Rob in person. While I’m still healthy, but worn, I want to make every effort to pass on the passion I have for the artistic and craftsmanship of todays artist such as Rob, Hamilton, Doc Barranti to my son. Getting to meet Rob in person was a true pleasure for both Remington and myself.

Good deal. We all need to make more of a point to do this. I'm afraid the instant gratification crowd will not get it unless they get to see it and meet some of the craftsmen in person - all those you mentioned and then some.

We visited about your FA 97 today Tim. We were talking about snakewood and Rob showed us a set of snakewood 1911 grips of scales and then he mentioned that Roy Fishpaw one time made a set of one piece snakewood grips for a Bowen modified model 97 and he said Roy told him that those grips would never come off! I remember Roy telling me that when he did those but I never understood why. Rob shared that apparently Hamilton put a very small alignment pin in the bottom of the grip frame and Roy installed the grips around the pin then glued them together! You should have seen the look on Rob’s face when I told him I was the customer whom Roy and Hamilton had built that unicorn 97 for😄 I told him that gun now lived in OK with you and you could see the light come on about how small our little world really is.

Don't where the locator pin is, but when I took my grips off they came off the front strap, but were very tight on the back strap.

That’s a cool visit, Robb! I too would like to visit and meet some of the great characters of our passion, for the ones I have met, all have been top notch folks.
